Attack while I am happy.

Things that make me happy this week.Natto. Deep breathing. Peppermint tea. Hot baths (I live in Japan and my bath is awesome. Hot water bottles (thanks to this forum for that one.

IBS is the worst. I am in the middle of my longest, most painful attack of my 40 year life. I recently bought a house and had a second healthy daughter. I am on a 2 week paternity leave. By all accounts I should be happy. But for 10 days I have been bowled over almost in tears.

This forum has helped a lot. Thanks for sharing your experiences. It helps immensely to know that others have the same issues. Comments or advice are very much wanted!!

Hi there

After a few days reading this forum I now more and more believe that The key to beating IBS is much much more around the mind and emotions than the physical food aspect.....

The food management is a holding pattern whilst we all seek to resolve the emotional triggers and find long term ways to manage our own demons ....my IBS triggered after years of gradual stress build up from personal and business life........

I think that until you get right down to the root causes of your stress and emotions and learn to handle, them then it will be IBS

I know I am generalising but just giving my view !

You could be right and some people (my self included) are just generally stressy or anxious people so may be more prone?

Stress is a big part of the ibs too. But if I eat right, stressful day doesn't have to have 10 bathroom visits and the constant worry of the one that will be a surprise! I think u all know what I am talking about!!!

I used to think my IBS was Stress related ,due to stressful work related pressures etc. Retired 2o years ago and still have IBS. As the symptoms are not as bad now , I conclude that stress plays a big part and makes things worse but not the total cause. Having said that , I have no idea what the cause is , after 50 years of IBS. Sometimes I think that I have identified a food culprit but that becomes less definite when sometimes it produces symptoms and then on another occasions no symptoms. Very complicated condition !

Thanks for your comment. It's really helpful. Yeah maybe we might be causing stress just by trying to find a cause. Whatever it is, let us off this terrible ride.
