Hi Vicki, you are in a catch 22 poor thing, I am the complete opposite of you I have the dreaded D, but as you have C it's awkward for you,as you know most pain killers make it worse. I take it you have tried all the norm syrup of figs and all raw Veg. My Sister in Law has your condition and left white bread alone, and fizzy drinks, and she found a bit of relief. Sorry I can't help more, I hope you can find a solution. Take care.

Hi, I've suffered with IBS-c since I was 15 (now pushing 30), so I totally get where you are coming from. I gave up on the medication and have been using relaxation, diet and exercise to manage it since, although it isn't always effective. I minimise certain foods in my diet using the FODMAP system (if you offered me £100 to eat an apple, I'd walk away from that £100, as it wouldn't be worth the agony it causes me) and I take regular exercise (cycling and running mostly). Also I have been seeing a private physiotherapist for about 4 years (not cheap, but so worth it) for back problems, but he has also treated me for IBS - it is not the most comfortable or dignified experience, but I have found it hugely beneficial. He treats the deep hip muscles, intercostals (the muscles between your ribs), abdominal muscles and some deep back muscles and I find this relieves my symptoms hugely.

I get days like that - the tiredness and brain fog is horrible. I found the Forever Living probiotic really helpful, although the fibre satchels didn't make much of a difference. Also, keep on top of your water intake - I dehydrate super easy and find this instantly starts to affect my gut, so I've always got a glass/bottle on the go. The FODMAP isn't a long term solution, but I've found it really useful in figuring out if there are any foods that upset me. As I mentioned above, apples and pears are really problematic, as is large amounts of dairy (I don't cut stuff out unless I really absolutely have to, I minimise it and substitute it). Everyone is different so what works for me may not work for you, but I really hope it helps relieve some of your symptoms.

I sympathise. I joined this group today as I feel like I'm getting no where and hope for tips and advice. I was off work last week for two days and off again today. I was diagnosed about a year ago but my symptoms seem to be getting worse also. One think I have realised in short time I  here...we are clearly not alone x

I really feel for you.  I had IBS C for many years but now it changes from C to D.  Never used to have the urgency but now I do on occasions.  I will be embarking on an exclusion diet when I come back from holiday - don't want the hassle to have to check every food label whilst away.  The person that I have been emailing is Mary Roe, have a look at her website.
