Hi there I have been having blood in my stool on the toilet paper not loads just light bright red blood Anus feels itchy as if somthing is In there sorry for been gross my stool is always different never the the same I am a 25 year old male and scared Incase I have colon cancer my doctor said its just ibs

Hi Andy, it sounds like you might have hemorrhoids which may account for the itchiness and the small amount of bleeding that you are experiencing. If you are really concerned, then a trip to you GP might help to put your mind at ease. Best wishes

I agree with Pinki92 - sounds like haemorrhoids to me, too. Especially since the blood is bright red.

What other symptoms do you have? And has your doctor advised anything for the IBS?

Sometimes I have flutters I feel like my breath always catches and my stools are never the same I said I was worried about colon cancer he said no family history and to young for that

I would have hoped he would have given you a few blood tests to say for certain but I still think your doctor is correct that it's not cancer. There are some other illnesses that can cause blood in the stools, however you would probably be stressing some other symptoms, and your stools would almost certainly contain much darker blood than you are describing.

You say you have flutters and your breath catches. It sounds to me like you may suffer from anxiety as I've had similar symptoms in the past. Would you agree?

Yeah he done a blood test a while back came back low folate he said it would be due to diet went back after 3 months and said that's fine see when they do that type of test is that for everything lol ? Yeah probably think about things to much I have seen myself go to the toilet 3 4 times a day then other days it's fine lol

I over-analyse things way too much as well! It hasn't helped my anxiety but I'm finally managing to get it under control through a combination of therapy and CBT, and I think my IBS has improved as a result.

Not sure what blood test he gave you. It might have been a complete blood count which I think would pick up both low folate levels as well as other diagnostic anomalies. I can't imagine he'd have just tested your folate levels so I'm guessing it was this blood test and if there were no other clinical markers there was nothing to make him worried.

Trips to the toilet 3-4 times a day are not unusual. If you're used to going less than that, a change is something you are right to bring to your doctor's attention, but in the face of all the other evidence, I'd trust your doctor. I sometimes go to the toilet 5 or 6 times a day!

Changes to our stools are related to a number of things including diet, anxiety and stress. Given you're a little anxious, this could be what's causing your weird bowel movements. If these are troubling you, then something like CBT or mindfulness might help calm you down. I don't know much about your circumstances, but I have tried both and found CBT much more effective for me as it helps talk me out of it. As you also overthink things, you may find CBT is more effective for you as well.

Sounds very much like piles, have you tried some pile cream to see if it helps?

Certainly sounds like ' good old fashioned ' piles.

Itching is a common symptom n the little blood could be a slight tear in entry to anus and/or piles.

If in doubt pop to see your GP n don't feel embarrased, this is very common.

sounds like hemmeroids. see gp to give you peace of mind.

doesnt take much straining or a lot of trips to te loo to get some small blood sign on paper.

I'm assuming you mean your stools are yellowish rather than saying you've detected pus? If you are experiencing yellow stools and a burning sensation it is possibly things moving through your body far too quickly. The yellow discharge and burning sensation could be bile acids and they haven't had time to be reabsorbed. Given what we've discussed above, this could all be anxiety-related rather than anything more serious.
