Laxatives

Hi has anyone here had a bad reaction to various laxatives. I took 1 bisacodyl last night and today i have had the most painful stomach pains. It worked as a laxative but i can't cope with the stomach pains.

Here is one option for you. Find an herbal product called "Cascara Sagrada" ...usually at a health food store or vitamin store.... Give them a try... Only ONE a night...

Some people claim that Milk of Magnesia helps them without any discomfort... I would exhaust all 'alternative' or natural medications before EVER going the Rx route. Good luck!

Ok thankyou for your reply. I will try those products because there is no way i will take the other laxatives my gp gave me.

The best natural and painless is magnesium citrate or oxide. I too used to take laxatives that gave me cramps. Now I take between 400 - 800 magnesium before bed with lots of water and all fine. It has made such a difference in my life. Another thing you could try is Aloe Ferrox tablets, also from health shops. I get mine on Amazon. You can try Solgar Magnesium Citrate. It's the best one.

You are not alone! Bisacodyl is a nightmare. The pain was awful and I never took it again. I use movicol (miralax) nowadays- it's trouble free and you can regulate the dose up or down as you need to.

Do u have ibs? If so laxatives tend to be a big no no as they cause bowel spasms

Yes i have IBS and the spasms went on for 2 days. I will never take bisacodyl again. I have trying different laxatives from my GP but do the only one i can tolertate is fibagel. I can't take it everyday though because i start bad stomach pains and wind again :( I have had IBS since i was a kid and i just wish they could find out more about it and hopefully a cure.

I eat lots of kiwis and take psyllium husk tablets. Also i take acacia fibre. I also changed to sprouted oats for breakfast instead of normal as they are a lot higher in fibre and are digested easier

This is a strong laxative despite the statement on the pack. It will give some people cramps (like me) try not to use them often. Nothing to worry about but senna is more gentle.
