Can anyone answer whether glycerine supposotories remove stool only in the rectum or if they trigger more to come down from the colon? I have rectal intussecuption which causes me to incompletely empty. I use these and it just seems I am never clear of stool. Thanks

Ethome, I wondered that myself, as I have the same problem after having an op for an almost complete bowel prolapse follows by a hernia op on the porthole from that keyhole op...nOw I have to get results of scan showing small gallstones, and want to discuss with dr. That my bowel is never empty either.. I take Senna ducosate domperidone as well as plenty of veg and fruit and drink water all the time .. This is not just ordinary constipation but a more complicated issue I think..

I am going to follow this post with interest (only just joined this site so newbie)

Best wishes for a solution

Hather,I've just replied to you in another post.

I'm now going to ask you a question, because I suffer with as they say IBS!!!!!

I generally use the loo about 4-5times a day,and like you say I never feel empty, and I suffer a lot of pain daily.

Now over the past month when I wipe myself I can feel a lump,my hubby looked and he seen it as well. We seen a GP last Thursday and she wasn't sure what it was, so I'm seeing the head of the practice tomorrow ,and that's my biggest fear a prolapsed bowel, how can you tell when you've got a prolapsed bowel?

Hi Gemini 71

A few years ago I had piles, then my bowel dropped out a bit after going to the lo0 was able to push it gently back in for a few years, then a year or so ago the whole bowel descended each time, and on a bad day would have to get it back several times a day.. My hubby actually took a photo which I gave to specialist and he asked to keep (gross)..

anyway I went into have it stitched up by keyhole surgery, hubby had to go into care for a few weeks as I couldn't cope with lifting him etc (sadly he passed away last June). It was successful mostly they said I was strongly stitched inside..however I still get pain stretching and bending..but this possibly made worse by having hobby home a bit to soon and then having to continue with lifting etc.

Now it is slipping out again as the scfinter (sp?) is no longer firm (tho I haven't had any leakage so far thankfully).. Sometimes it feels reall uncomfy when shopping as it feels heavy. Before I had a scan and took the horrid medicine I could not it believe how much came out, which like others makes me wonder where and when in the system does the poo start waiting to expel..I mean I seem to go several times a day Firm not loose, it just feels like I'm not functioning normally.. I try and keep cheerful nevertheless as so many have a serious problem and my scans touch wood have only shown gallstones.. So watching the posts with interest as someone might come up with interesting comments

What you have sounds very similar to how I was approximately, 8 years

ago. I thought I had 'piles' so brought the appropriate cream from the

chemist and used it as directed for about 6 months. I began to have

severe discomfort and bleeding so decided to go to GP who confirmed

my diagnosis. More creams and potions later and further deterioration

in my condition, husband very cross at this point because I hadnt 'come

clean' so back to GP and asked to be referred to a consultant. My state

at this time was desperate, I felt as if I lived in the bathroom and no

social life was possible, you keep quiet about 'it' because nobody wants

to hear. I paid to go privately as I wanted a speedy appointment, chose

to see a lady, for obvious reasons and after an examination asked if my

GP had actually examined me I said, of course well you havent got 'piles'

you have a prolapsed rectum. I had to wait again to book a further

appointment with a consultant who could actually deal with this problem.

By this time my condition had deteriorated further, bleeding etc etc I was

at screaming point. I had to overcome my blushes to see a man this time

but was past caring, he explained the problem and the operation needed

to resolve it, cripes!. I had the op in 2 seperate operations, half taken the

first time to see if that would do the trick, it didnt, so I had to have complete removal, from below. It can be pulled back through surgical means, by way of cut in stomach but as I had too much scar tissue from

previous interventions that was impossible in my case. I paid privately

for all treatment as waiting wasnt an option, about £10.000 all told, so

do make sure you have a GP who can recognise what they see.

I sincerely hope that your symptoms are not related to what I had, but

incomplete emptying of the bowel is one of the signs.

Shirlygirly ,Now you've really got me worried,my GP is incompetent at the best of times, and he's a Man so that makes it even more embarrassing .

I was told about12yrs ago incomplete emptying of the bowel can be IBS,though I've never truly believed in IBS,they just don't know what to say or do. I've already got piles, from Haveing my first child 50yrs ago,but they very rarely flare up.

But my Stomack is like I'm 6mths pregnant ,and is never still or free from pain, but this lump I felt over the last month, has got me worried.

I go to the loo generally after each time I eat, sometimes more, then each time my tummy pain gets worse. So I guess it's just go and see my male GP tomorrow and see what he says, that's if he looks,he's never touched me yet. Thank you Hather and Shirlygirly

You need something stronger, glycerine helps me if I have cramps and need to pass a stool. I have a spastic colon, it just doesn't function as it should!

I find exercise, lots of fluids helps though occasionally have to resort to senokot at night, lots of water with it and then glycerine suppository the following morning if uncomfy.

If I feel like I need a little extra help 'going' I go for bananas, linseeds are

very good sprinkled on oat based cereal or porridge. I tend to go for oat

based food rather than wheat. But since my op I have to slow the passage

of food down as it goes through my system as I have no 'holding tank' now,

which of course is the rectum. I was recommended Apple Cider Vinegar

and that has been my life saver, but whether it would help you, I dont know. Your best bet would be to Google it and decide then.

Shirley.

Shirlygirly what does cider vinegar do & how do you take it please.

I cannot comment much about suppositories triggering off more down the colon but I agree with you it does feel like it because I have sometimes used them. I from time to time get about hourly motions of soft 'polyfiller' lumps which are messy then next day OK again. Probably nothing wrong but Ever so annoying and uncomfortable and sometimes the lumps are hard and an effort to come out. I do suffer from I B S but a very mild form.
