Hi, I have been intolerant toFructose & lactose for 30years , could not eat Tomatoes, Dried Fruit, Onions &Chocolate . Two years ago I had my Gall Bladder out , and since then I cannot eat Veg,Fruit , biscuits or Cakes . I eat Weight Watchers bread because it has Dextrose sugar , which I can eat. Potatoes, Meat and. Fish . I have lactose free Milk and Spread . I look at any Tablets I take , Buscapan does have Lactose in them so I only take them if I am in great pain. But now my cholesterol is 6.9 it has never been higher . My doctor wants me to have Cholesterol Tablets these have Lactose in and I don't want to make my IBS worse , I don't drink or smoke . Does anybody else have a problem with Cholesterol Tablets .

Hi Sammy,I'm in your position. At the moment I'm on 20mg of statins, but I'm not happy about it,they cause me Stomack pain, and cramp, anywhere like fingers ,legs, and even my arms ect. I've already had an heart attack, and my cholesterol rose to 8 so I had no choice, but my GP said give it 3mths then we'll see about stopping them,I then went down to 5 so she said give it another 3 mths, which is now up and I'm going for another blood test today, No matter what I'm coming off them, I take quite a lot of other meds and I don't want no more.

I've been reading up on how to reduce it myself ,and one thing I've found is Himmalayen sea salt,I've found a few links you could read, but I would have to have your email, because I don't think they would let me put them on here.Or just google it for yourself.

Hi Gemini, Thankyou for your reply. Let me know how you get on with your blood test results . I think my high Cholesterol is genetic ,I have high blood pressure as well . My Dad used to have really high bp and if his was bought down to under 160 over 80 he was ,he was really ill . In 1987 I had test for IBS and it also showed up ,I had gall stones so for nearly 30 years I have had a low fat diet and my Cholesterol has always been over six so it cannot be the foodi eat . Hope you get on ok with your results .

Sammy,Cholesterol, was never mentioned in my parents day,and I think you need some cholesterol anyway,so you know what they say now go back to eating like your parents did.

So I'm not going to worry about it to much, got much bigger worries than cholesterol. Good luck.

Hi Pandora, I should have said Fructose malabsorption. Not intolerant. I used to be able to eat fruit (not tomatoes)and veg . After finding out I had a gall stone in 1987 ,I had a low fat diet and knew what I could eat with out being ill. After having gall Bladder out , I could not eat any thing with Fructose or Lactose in it, I googled it and came up Fructose Malabsorption. That was why I could not eat dried fruit , onions chocolate and after 30 years of being very carefull with what I eat I finally had a name for it , and it wasn't all in my head as somebody told me.
