Acid indigestion

Can anyone help, I have been constantly sick since May 2014 and am now also suffering from severe acid indigestion and muscle pain in my stomach. My gp has changed my omeprazole to lansprazol but it seems to be getting worse rather than better and going into my chest. Has anyone else suffered these symptoms and can help. Many thanks x

Yes and I also have IBS. Ask your doctor about Kolanticon Gel. Don't just buy it because I believe it can react with other meds but a specialist has recommended it as it helps with acid, wind and bloating - worth a try if you've tried everything else! Good Luck

Get referred for an.endoscopy before you self medicate would be my advice. Acidity can be soothed with 3 dessertspoonfuls cider vinegar and 2 teaspoons honey in hot water. I was sceptical about vinegar but it works for me.

Hi, I had terrible heartburn and reflux for many months which got worse and worse. It went away the day after I took a couple of things out of my diet. I have felt so much better for just over a month. Did you try diet changes for your acid indigestion?

Apple Cider Vinegar helped with my acid reflux and indigestion. I also stopped reclining my chair after dinner and stopped eating after dinner.

I also was helped by taking apple cider vinegar 1 teaspoon in water with 1/2 tsp of bicarbonite of soda (baking soda) -- drink it down while it is still fizzy. Also, I totally got rid of my GERD and acid indigestion with dietary changes. No coffee - and no red meat. Stick to fish and occassional chicken. Try the low-fodmap diet. That will help with everything.

Hi I have been on Omeprazole and Lansoprazole. The Omeprazole worked but made my other IBS symptoms worse but Lansoprazole didn't work at all. Have you tried Ranitidine? as that can work for a lot people. I've just been prescribed Pantoprazole but haven't tried it yet. Maybe ask your doctor to try you on those. I'm also on the Fodmap diet and I've noticed my reflux hasn't been as bad on it.

Hi Shbowker,

Usually acid indigestion is because you do not have enough stomach acid. Your food does not get digested and sloshes around in your stomach and washes up into the esophagus. Doctors tend to give you Galveston, which kills the little stomach acid you have and need. What you really need is Betaine Hydrochloride, stomach acid pills to help your digestion, to speed it up.

Try it, if it does not work and gets worse, take a glass of water. You could also try combining your food properly. If you eat protein, no carbs. So the stomach can digest each separately. Food combining it is called. Books about it in all bookstores.

Hope you will get better.

i was having really bad pains and indigestion ,a new doctor at the practise suggested i give rantitidene which has helped with both symptoms greatly helps with feeling sick too

Sorry you've not been well. I recently found eating raw garlic helpful, since I started doing this I went from having gerd daily to not at all. I have been chewing it and swallowing it with water or making humous and skordalia, it is an alkaline food. You could look up other foods which help alkalise the body. Get well soon!
