Cutting out gluten no good.

A few weeks ago I thought that I`d try going gluten free to see if it helped my bowel issues. It had the opposite effect, & Iv`e been severely constipated ever since, despite going back on to regular food. I don`t understand what`s happened to my digestive system, could it be sulking, or is it an inevitable consequence of getting older?

Hi hairy fairy it's probably both.I had the same problem on the Fodmap diet,I ended up feeling really unwell, probably through lack of lacking vitamins and such .I wish you well.

Hi, I went gluten free at Christmas, and had the same problem for months, I might add I am also meat and dairy free. I now have good movements and go normally once a day, my weight is fairly constant only varying by a pound over the past six months, I am a lot less fatigued, go cycling quite often, still get pains in my joints if I eat something that is 'dodgy' by mistake or as an experiment. My skin has cleared up. I don't see the Doctor anymore, and life is good.

Stick with the GF if you can, it gets better....

I had the same result. Now I just go LOW gluten trying to stick to the low FODMAPs.

Hi

I am currently going gluten free too- I think it has been a month now and I think in general I have still not had too many bouts of constipation- I wondered if you have replaced all the gluten products you used to eat with anything? I think if your main source of fibre in your diet was those products then perhaps that is the problem? I have swapped to gluten free bread and cereals and have found gluten free porridge oats to be really good so far
