hi my names paul from prestatyn could someone let me no what is the best thing to take for trapped wind in stomach its getting me down alot

i have suffered with ibs for about 6yrs but my bloated stomach depresses me every day can anybody help with getting rid of trapped wind please

Have you tried charcoal tablets. I have a lot of problem with gas. You can buy them at Boots at just over three pounds. They have helped me. Try them and let me know how you get on,

All I can do is say what helped my ibs.

I took a colon cleanse supplement, herbal cleanse supplement, garlic oil, berberine, msm, horestail, raw pineapple over a period of time.

Also a good pro biotic every night.

Repeat a couple of times over a after 6 months.

You may feel worse before you get better.

I saw about 20 doctors over about 5 years and none of them helped. So decided to treat myself

Have you tried meds ? I take omeprazole, colpermin, and mebeverine.

Have you tried mint tea ? Or ginger cordial ? I take those too. Sometimes I find laying down with a hot water bottle helps too.

A medical nutritionist recommended 5 drops of good peppermint oil in half a tumbler of warm water, sipped slowly. You will feel the gut gradually relaxing.

Have had no problems with charcoal tablets definitely did not cause constipation.

I take peppermint oil called in UK Colpermint and other names. But also buscopan. Avoid cow's milk and wheat.

Also try lying on your left hand side and curling up this can sometimes help expel the wind.

Windeeze tablets from the chemist got rid of trapped wind which was very painful. Never had any bother since.

I have ibs far many years i have trouble with wind but been told to suck on mints or fruit pastals to help with wind promlems i take buscapan and pain killers if needed witch is most of the time if i get stress or dairy products do you know when pain starts with yourself paul?

If you've got a lot of wind, it's probably because there are bacteria in your digestive system feeding on the food that you eat and producing gas! The problem is fermentable carbohydrates - they are being fermented instead of being digested - otherwise known as FODMAPs.

There are several kinds of foods that can cause gas that are all grouped together under the label FODMAPs. Lactose (from milk) can cause problems for some people. Fructans is another possible problem, which is found mainly in wheat, onions and garlic (it's not always about gluten with wheat). There are others too - lots of info on the web.

The FODMAPs diet cuts out all possible sources of fermentable carbs, even though you may only be reacting to some of them, not all of them. It can take a long time to work out what's going on if you only eliminate one food group at a time, and if you're reacting to more than one thing, then it would get very confusing. The diet is based on cutting out everything and then adding things back to see what causes a reaction. Ask your GP for a referral to a dietician if you want to do the diet, as it's quite complicated.

I found colpermin capsules between meals fairly helpful with reducing bloating, and they were cheap. They are slow release peppermint oil, so might be more effective than mint tea or sucking on mints.

Probably the last med in the world that you want to be on is omeprazole... that is a stomach acid reducer. If you're fermenting rather than digesting, then you probably have low stomach acid rather than high. I sometimes take betaine HCl, which is a stomach acid booster, and I find that helps reduce bloating.

The best thing I have come across are activated charcoal tablets. They absorb the intestine gas really well. They are available from amazon and are quite cheap
