Had IBS symptoms for years but recently developed breathlessness which seems to be related to the stomache also. Any similar experiences?

Hi ThreeSheds52, I have experienced breathlessness with abdominal discomfort. I have a feeling anxiety may play a part. The pain/discomfort probably initiates a stress/anxiety response. Who knows? IBS is quite complex!

Yes I agree I think the breathlessness is most likely down to stress over the ibs, unfortunately ibs and stress feed off one another!

BUMP - experiencing the same affect. Try ASYRAN in the morning and evening...helped me a lot. But its stress related.

I have the same problem. Recently I got palpitations as well and had a holter moniter fitted for 24 hours. I was going through extreme stress after leaving my job due to IBS, cardio doc said it was stress related so I'm working on it at the moment. Otherwise my heart is fine, thank heavens. IBS is lot more than just C and D, it is a whole myriad of conditions which pop up when you least expect:-) best of luck.

Had exact same symptoms as described here. But here is the deal - I don't believe it is stress related. It is stomach related. The stomach needs healing. I am posting this as my personal experience so it may not apply to all but this is what I have found. I don't believe in the IBS label as a diagnosis. I had breathlessness, diarrhea, palpitations, and a whole host of other symptoms. How did I get rid of it?Stomach cleanse, pineapple cleanse, enzymes, garlic, monlaurin , msm and probiotics, oil of oregano, aloe vera followed by horsetail, apple cider vinegar, atp for energy, and multi vitamins. No or very low sugar intake. No drinking. Stress doesn't cause IBS in my case, IBS causes stress. Good luck

By the way - I didn't take all the natural herbs together, the first stage was over 1-3 months with some on and off to give the stomach and body a break and prevent any bacterial resistance. The second stage is 1-2 months. May have to repeat as necessary but I felt the difference almost immediately. Insomnia and itching disappeared. My bowel started to clear and suffered more diarrhea initially so it is important to replace electrolytes but the benefit was amazing in my recovery. If you have signs of any bacterial infestation that is causing bowel problems, see a doctor.

Hi I have been having the same problem, I get breathless, go dizzy and shakey, and have drops in blood pressure often when I need to go to the loo, sometimes not. IBS or stress or a bit of both I think, still not sure which came first in my case. I think I will try some natural remedies as mentioned, have been taking amitriptyline for close to 10 years and hate having to take it.

I was also getting drops in blood pressure and got very dizzy - I was sent for tests for Addison's at one point as the Doctor's thought I had problems in that area - all tests were normally. I don't believe IBS is caused by stress. I think this is an old way of thinking that some doctors hold on to that has since been discredited. I believe the Mayo clinic website states that IBS is not caused by stress.

I think the choice is either accept the doctor's diagnosis and take the prescribed drugs or take the alternative self treatment experimentation route. Neither is easy and the choice is very personal and based on symptoms.

Ignoring my doctor, going for the experimentation route, and trying alternative therapies really worked for me and I don't have IBS any more.

Similar here. I do however feel there is an element of stress related to mine. I also had AF (Atrial Fibrillation) which after 3 ablations I no longer suffer with. So now when i get breathless I know it's IBS related. I thought I was in control of it by cutting various things out of my diet such wheat like beer and bread, fizzy drinks and caffeine. This weekend though imve had another flare up and am unable to do anything without getting out of breath. It's not a fitness thing either as I've been running regularly for a month now.

The diet and stress both play a big part in my ibs and i would love a magic cure, until then I just have to keep trying different things to see what helps.

hello, I think I have the same problem. It's been two yrs since I started to suffer from dyspnea and noticed it gets better avoiding certain foods. The doctor is skeptic about the fact it may be connected with some allergies and ibs. I'm trying to resolve by myself, taking probiotics and eating fodmap... drinking vinegar mitigates the symptoms. I experience stomacaches, constant bloating, sometimes diahrrea and mainly an horrible dyspnea. what do you do and take to feel better? i am so tired to feel sick... thank u all in advance

I have been experiencing breathlessness for about 9 months now and started after a large meal. I have suffered with bad constipation and bloating for years so always suspected I had IBS but never did anything about it. Since developing breathlessness I have been back and forth to the doctor's and I often feel as though I am wasting their time as my issues never get resolved. I also often become very light headed and feel faint on top of getting palpitations however I have had three ECGs and all of them were normal plus I have had a couple of blood tests and these were normal too. I have been put on lansoprasole as it seems I suffer from some acid reflux and I feel as though this has helped with some of my symptoms. I do get quite bad anxiety which could be a trigger for my symptoms but it feels as though the symptoms come first and trigger my anxiety however sometimes if I hear a loud noise or I become too hot I start becoming light-headed and breathless. I do need to go back to the GP and stress my digestive problems again because I haven't actually been diagnosed with IBS but I feel like if I have one bowel movement a week sometimes then it probably is. I feel like seeing other people on this forum with similar symptoms makes me feel reassured. I just want my GP to tell me what's wrong with me so I can do something about it!

Have you made any progress in getting answers? This sounds very similar to what I've been going through.

Would love to hear where you're at with this as well, I honestly have no idea what causes the breathlessness, though in my case it doesn't seem to show as abnormal in oxygen saturation test. So basically it comes across to everyone as though you are fine. I've experienced intense heart palpitations, or at least what I would describe as that, and these have mostly been when my stomach is really acting up, or I eat something that's off the list for gastritis. I'm not sure what the connection is, but I also had EKGs that were fine. I hope you're finding healing. I'm on the journey myself.

I have to add also that the first time I experienced this, my vit d was low. Haven't checked since, but my doctor felt it was a contributing factor, also, I was put on iron sups as levels were moderately low.
