Been eating the same wheat/dairy/gluten free bread for a few years now but think its disagreeing with me.

Have no idea why but then this whole ibs thing can be a mystery most of the time. Wondered what brand of bread suits other people? I'm past caring about the taste, just need to eat something that agrees with me as i'm losing weight. Any advice would be great thanks.

some brands of bread have slightly different ingredients, Tesco for example has fruit juice in it and I cant have anything that has citrus of fruit juice in, so it could be that some of the ingredients don't suit you. you may have to try a different brand and see how you go.

When I was doing the low-FODMAP diet, I bought a breadmaking machine and made my own wheat-free bread so I knew exactly what went into it.

Many brands contain various gums to hold the bread together and both these and the apple juice, which is also to be commonly found as an ingredient, were all banned on FODMAPs.

The gluten-free products in supermarkets are aimed primarily at people with Coeliac Disease and, therefore, don't take into account the needs of IBS-ers.

I also used to eat corn tortillas and crackers as a bread replacement which worked well for me at the time.

I've just bought a packet of bake your own GF bread mix from tesco. The ingrediants say it is FODMAP safe. Will post back when I have tried it. It was on offer yesterday in the GF section.

The brand is Hale &Hearty. Baked it today. The pack says ' ready in less than an hour". Except in the skewer test it was still sticky/doughy inside. (the mix has whole flax, sunflower and sesame seeds but I sieved them and ground them down as whole flax doesn't like my insides...not sure if this could have caused the stickyness?) Left it in the the oven for almost 2 hours! Still sticky! So I let it cool, sliced it and put the slices back in the oven. Tastes nice. Lovely crunch on the outside. Just hope the slight stickiness doesn't cause me issues.

have you tried spelt bread tesco in ireland stock it so im sure they'd have it in other stores

Love this site and all the advice! Great to know i'm not alone! Thanks for all the replies. Actually starting to wonder if it could be the folic acid I started taking five weeks ago. Anyone any experience of side effects with folic acid? Thanks

My Dietician suggested "Genius" bread - she says Morrisons, Tesco and Sainsburys have it. I've not seen it in my local store of Tesco but plan to try the others over next week.

I have to say that Waitrose and the big Tescos are the best for this, not sure about Sainsburys, not in the small ones anyway.

box of 5 fruit cake slices which are very moist indeed, and it was like having ordinary! food once again. I am 9 months into the diet and sometimes find it hard when I can't eat what I used to, but you do find ways round it. I now bake all my cakes and pies, and can't tell the difference with the pastry. As I am Welsh thge welsh cakes are on the menu again. Cheers!

First part of my reply has gone!! Tesco Free From range have some items half price in my Cardiff store. Try their box of 5 fruit slices, as they taste the same as ordinary cake

Be careful with the free from ranges. They still have FODMAPS in them like apple sauce or other sweeteners.

Don't know if this thread is still active but I found that gluten free breads esp warburtons make me feel sickly. Haven't a clue why I'm guessing preservatives? When I bake from scratch I use doves farm bread flour and add ground flaxseeds, eggs, yeast, sugar, salt, olive oil and use a milk substitute and feel ok eating that.
