Having a particularly bad IBS day

I just seem to get it for no reason. It's like I can never find out what helps it and never find out what makes it worse. I hardly see any pattern when I do a diary...

For me this is quite the norm for IBS-totally unpredictable- i have had it for years,after various exclusion diets etc I am aware of some things that are definitely no go. but generally speaking,it is for me unpredictable too.Don't know whether this helps.

If you've got the D variety of IBS, you could try talking to your GP about Bile Acid Malabsorption/Disorder. There's a test for it (SeHCAT), but as it has to be done at a specialist hospital, my doctor decided to let me do a trial by treatment (colestyramine) instead and it seems to be working very well - especially now I've got the dosage sussed. Apparently it's the cause of IBS-D symptoms in more than 50% of patients, but is still under-recognised even by gastroenterologists.

I'm pretty sure it was you who posted the link to the article about BAD (BAM) on here, am I right? If so, thank you very much indeed as, after reading it, I followed it up with my GP and things took the course outlined above.

No. Didn't think it related to my symptoms but found it very interesting. Good to hear your Dr listened too.
