I have had this a few times in the past and over the last few days It appears to have come back. I feel like im shaking inside, almost like butterflies, i have had a lot of stress recently as well, but this feeling is very uncomfortable. It started with my tummy swelling one night, then my usual IBS C kicked in followed by a little IBS D. Any help would be appreciated.

Hey nanabud,

I think I have experienced the symptoms you're describing. For me, sometimes it feels like butterflies, other times it feels like my abdomen is trembling from the inside :-/ unfortunately I don't know what to suggest as I have never seen it listed as a symptom of IBS but we are known to feel/notice our bowel sensations more than the average person. I think that your stress may be playing a role in what you're experiencing, it may even be anxiety causing the symptom.

Hi Chocobella

Thanks for sharing that. I agree that it is a trembling feeling, and it does'nt seem to be listed as a symptom of IBS, but its good to know that it does exist and im not the only one experiencing it!! I have no doubt that my recent episode of stress is playing a huge part in it and im trying to sort it out at the mo. Great to share, thank you.

Hi nanabud. Not sure if im talking about the same thing but as soon as I get nervous or in a situation in which I cant get to the loo my stomach starts its usual gymnastics. its a horrible feeling, even if I was completely fine beforehand, as soon as I get into the car or wherever, I instantly need to go, its stress and nerves rolled into one!

Hi Lucycornwall,

I know what you mean, I've had a lot of events to attend recently , some were social others were work related, the work ones were non too

nice as i have to leave due to missing time with IBS, the stress involved has caused it all to flare up bigtime!! Just as I am about to leave the house I have to use the loo, so not nice. The tummy shakes I'm getting is related to all the anxiety I believe, a nervous tummy has its own work out gym which can wreak havoc and has no respect for times or appointments. Thanks for replying.

Hi Nanabud. Yes, I get this too. Sometimes related to stress sometimes just random, often in the middle of the night. Just a slight trembling, not painful, but when it starts it's hard not to latch on to it and wonder what's causing it, which in turn can then cause anxiety. The usual vicious circle. I don't think it's anything to worry about physically. It's just yet another symptom. When I was a kid my mum used to call it the collywobbles.

Hi denisthemenace

Thanks for your reply. Love the idea of the collywobbles name, its very funny, in fact it puts the fun into an otherwise bothering problem, its a lighthearted way to view it. Maybe we could all find fun names for our probs and it might even help us to not take ourselves so seriously, could be worth a try!!!
