Hi,

Newbie here, though I’ve had a brain tumour since December 2012.

Originally it was misdiagnosed as a GBM4 but since my original NO retired and I was taken off the TMZ I had been on for about 8 years, suddenly a new patch of interest was found in the periphery of the original.

This, finally turned out to be an Anaplastic Oligodendroglioma grade 3 which, although still cancerous, was a lot less dreadful than previously thought.

So that was the reason for my apparent longevity.

Anyway, I am now medically retired though still miss the camaraderie of my old life.

I am deeply depressed and can only speak to my wife about it, and that really only recently.

Up until November last year, I had reapplied, and got back, my driving licence, was driving and had some semblance of normality. Now this second tumour struck me - I was only speaking to my wife about it earlier on today and we both agreed that since this recurrence we have had very, very little input and very little knowledge of what exactly we’re dealing with (perhaps we can only blame ourselves for that).

Anyway, I need to change all that, so will ask my team what exactly we’re dealing with here.

Thank you for letting me introduce myself.

Stuart

It sounds to me like you’ve been through a rough ride. Welcome to this platform - you will be amongst others who ‘get what it’s like to have a brain tumour’ and all that goes with such a diagnosis. Navigating DVLA is a mission in itself. Depression is horrid. Having loved ones by your side rooting for you is important - sometimes it’s hard to let them support as we don’t want to drag others through our sadness. As a parent of a daughter who had brain tumours I can vouch for wanting to take all her pain and misery away. Thank you for sharing your story. I wish you continued courage and strength.

Hi Hippopotamus,Thank you so much for your reply; I think that with the first tumour I was so busy trying to get better, that I never had time to get depressed. Now I have; it’s horrible; horrible because I can actually have time to read all the threads that I did at the outset but actually understand them this time.

Of course, having this tumour is as dreadful as it is, although not as terrible as it might have been (ie. it might have been a GBM4 thank goodness it wasn’t, but I spent a good eight years thinking it was).

Thank you for reading my reply though, and I give you my best wishes.

Stu.
