Appointment instead of letter!!!!

I had a craniotomy 5 years ago to remove a large benign meningioma. Regular MRI which is followed by a letter with good news of no recurrence. This time after MRI two weeks ago I get a letter with an appointment via phone call for 6th Jan from neurosurgeon. I’m scared!

My daughter’s advice is to not worry as if it had been anything super concerning they would have contacted you more urgently following the MRI. Try to enjoy Christmas for what it is abs don’t let the appointment interfere with your present life. Really hope you can contain your worries and that you can have the courage to manage whatever the appointment brings you. Stay strong 🙏🤗

I know how you feel, the unknown is what terrifies you.

If it can wait several weeks then its unlikely to be that urgent. I consider it a win when they let me leave the mri. My post mri contact has been phone based throughout covid ( next one in a few weeks) so it may just be that they want to check in with you, especially if you've not actually been in contact with your consultant for a little while.

Fingers crossed

Went well thank you. Some cellular density which he described as a layer of dead cells which were not there before so it’s like a scar. No recurrence of tumour - re MRI in two years. Thank you for asking me.

What is the point of being scared?

You and your brain control how you react.

What is the point of being scared- is it useful?

If it’s something you can control- why worry since you can control it - eg exercise, diet, meditation, limiting negative ppl pr influences.

If it’s something you can’t control - you can’t control it so why worry- how is that helpful to you?

I have SFH which they originally thought was benign meningioma in 2018. SFH is rare brain tumour and it’s malignant so I’m on active surveillance- kind of sucky every 3 months .

Outside I’m fit and look normal - that’s because I work on it .

After my first craniotomy, they were talking about months of physio to walk properly etc etc

Fuck it, I kept exercising and eating anti inflammatory food and not listening to other patients in hospital and concentrated on my ‘ game’ getting the fuck out of hospital and getting on with my life!

I’m year 3 out of possible 5 year survival stat. Fuck that- from reading SFH is rare and sure tumour is likely to come back as lung/ bone or brain cancer ( had it last year as small brain cancer).

Big deal- we all die , meanwhile I intend to be fit and healthy as much as I can.

I opened a new business - helped bunch of people pro bono, lost the15kg mostly inactivity and steroid fat from 2018 by 2019 and pretty much having fun life.

I think of 3 things to be grateful for everyday- some days basic like I have shelter, I have people who love me, I can move etc

Of course it’s hard- sometimes it feels like I’m a prisoner waiting for an execution BUT

It’s up to you.
