What you need to know about TB Various tests are done to diagnose TB or tuberculosis. Initially it is checked by breathing with lymph nodes and stethoscope. Some laboratory tests are also done. Let's know how tuberculosis or TB disease is tested?

Mantoux tuberculin skin test (TST)

A small amount of tuberculin is injected into the skin of the uppermost arm. The patient is observed for 48-72 hours after the injection. During this time, some changes in the skin (such as a small pale rash around the injection site, if the injection site swells more than 5mm) are seen by the doctor to confirm the presence of TB bacteria in the patient's body.

Treatment of TB disease

It is important to treat latent TB even if there are no symptoms. Because the disease may develop in the future. Latent TB requires only one drug. However, in case of active TB several medicines are required.

How to prevent tuberculosis?

It is difficult to prevent the disease if you are around a person who has TB. Most people in endemic areas are vaccinated against tuberculosis. The TB vaccine is called Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine. However, it cannot completely prevent tuberculosis.

Some strategies to prevent TB –
