Are these 'new' Tuberculosis antibiotics available now?

Bedaquiline + PA824 + Delamanide +Linezolid +meropenum.......

I thought co trimoxazole ( sulphamethoxazole combined with trimethoripm) was already known about long ago and is in any case a long standing antibiotic yet that was mentioned in the essay re the 'new drugs' . In my case if my waterworks infection was was caused by TB it was definitely not eradicated by Trimethoprim but I was not told to take Trimethoprim with Suphamethoxazole but was told to take Trimethoprim on it's own..... After a month my symptoms cam back after two weeks with a vengeance but a months worth of Ciprofloxacin which tubercular bacteria are known to be susceptible to eradicated my symptoms...... I feel as if it did not totally eradicate all of the infection but that infection got a severe 'hammering'.....

The disconcerting afterthoughts caused by the so called experts leave one wondering is there a residue of bacteria left in quiescence that may well regenerate yet again?

I think at least some of those drugs are only used for drug resistant TB

We are working on our information about MDR-TB at the moment, and this is list of current drugs contained within it: Bedaquiline; Clofazimine; Cycloserine; Delamanid; Ethambutol; Imipenem/cilastatin or Meropenem; Levofloxacin, moxifloxacin or ofloxacin (known as fluoroquinolone antibiotics); Linezolid; P-aminosalicylic acid; Prothionamide; and Pyrazinamide. Whether all medications are available in all parts of the country I cannot say for sure.

I also cannot comment as regards to their efficacy, beyond noting that cure rates for MDR-TB are still very good but not as high as for drug-senstive TB, and that treatment completion is critically important to treatment success for MDR-TB.

Dear Helen C -That is very interesting reading............ Because I've passed the 'cut off date'

for being given any antibiotics if my latent TB becomes not so latent as in my view and experience over several decades I would be very interested to hear of any antibiotics forthcoming that are not so vicious re the liver! I have been told by my TB specialist that she does not 'think' at my age I would experience 'active TB'.......... Along the way Clavicular lymph 1990 said to be lymphoma treated by radio therapy 'in case' but with no reference to TB whatsoever. 2013 mesenteric lymphs bulky no reference to Tb and identical to previous outcome........ no other treatment thereafter......... Anyone can make a mistake I'm told but it's best to 'put the past behind you'! 2016 severe waterworks cured by Cipro that I was told

fits in with the fact that it was an infection not cancer!

Occasionally I do have symptoms that have plagued me for a very long time but I am told I do look exceedingly fit for 78........ OK I say but never the less it was not until I took a months worth of trimethoprim & then a fortnight later due to horrendous water works symptoms that and additional month's worth of Ciprofloxacin 'cured'. Although a specialist

TB nurse ( Leicertershire) told me that Cipro had nothing to do in the TB equation, disconcerted me so I discussed that detail with my TB specialist who confirmed she was wrong on that score.......... One hears so many utterings that add to a feeling of distrust of many of the medical profession......... This feeling of distrust in many an instance is unfounded because there are many brilliant dedicated doctors and surgeons and nurses. It has been my misfortune to meet a great many who simply do not have a clue regarding TB and the importance of noting that a previous TB history is an important item of note in certain circumstances.

I am keeping my fingers crossed in the hope that if any of my many all over the place symptoms do not go away due I would think to my resistance flagging 'yet again' I would be offered one of the 'new' 'magic bullet' potions that would render my functions as near perfect as possible ......... but am I asking too much? Trouble is I do know what it feels like to be super fit!

Yes, let's hope for many new and less toxic treatments for TB. We look forward to a day when TB is treated with a week of antibiotics and is considered no more bother than any short term infection.
