Coughing Up Blood

This is my first post so please be patient with me.

At the start of November I began coughing up large amounts of blood. I went to hospital and they said that they think it is a nosebleed further back in my nose. At the start of this month I saw a nose specialist who had a look inside my nose and said they can see 2 points where the blood may be coming from inside my nose. However they said they can't do anything about them as it carries the risk of it becoming worse. They also said I have acid reflux.

I'm the last 3-4 weeks I hadn't coughed uk any blood but today it seemed to start again but it was only a tablespoons worth. I had also had a bronchoscopy earlier this week.

I have also had TB in the past (in 2014)

What could be causing this bleeding based on the fast that I don't think the issue is with my nose.

I am greatful for any clarification.

I think the best thing is to go to see another doctor so you get a second opinion.

Have you told them you had TB in the past? Is your X-ray clear?

I am being treating by the same clinic that did my treatment for TB so they do know. Ever since I had TB my x-ray hasnt been clear. The doctor said that it is scars left behind by the infection.

Dipsy342 I guess there are many possible causes. The bronchoscopy will hopefully give you the answers.

It is a difficult time of year being left waiting for test results.

When will you get your results?

End of January so still a while to go.

Thinking about it, it seems that coughing does not seem to bring out blood all the time. In fact it feels like the blood gathers somewhere inside my body and this is what makes me cough which leads to coughing up blood. Once i have coughed up blood and it has settled, i sometimes cough but there is no blood.

Have you found out what is wrong?

I am in a similar situation, I have not tested positive for TB, but have similar symptoms of spitting up blood. Doctors also want me to do a bronch. I hope you are well, God bless

Hi Dipsy342,

I am glad that you have made your doctors aware that you have had TB in the past, so they can make sure your current symptoms are not related - this would have been the first advice that I would give. I am hopeful it is not a result of TB past or present - as if it was, you would almost definitely have other worrying symptoms by the stage that it causes you to cough up blood.

I was recently convinced I had a chest infection, because I was coughing up mucus for weeks on end. When I went to the doctor they explained that the mucus was coming from my sinuses and I was inhaling it into my lungs, causing me to cough it back up. Perhaps this is what is happening to you too?

Either way, I'm afraid that you may not get any answers until your test results come back.
