Recovering
My dad did really well at the LTACH, he was weaned off the ventilator and had the
tracheostomy
taken out. He is now doing inpatient rehab, he gets out of breath easily but we are told it’s normal and will get better. He’s in really good spirits and working really hard on his recovery.

My dads severe pain with a Tracheostomy.. he is a covid patient, anyone else experienced this??
He is still paralysed and obviously can’t talk because of the
tracheostomy
but he is completely fully aware of his surroundings, understands absolutely everything that is asked of him.

Difficulty weaning from coma sedation in Covid patient
Hello, my father, 74, is in ICU nearing 4 weeks now battling covid and ARDS. He’s been on a ventilator since he was admitted to the ICU. He had a sepsis episode, luckily he was stabilized and was able to have a tracheotomy. The trach eased his discomfort and the icu team was able to lower his sedation

COVID x STROKE
He is awake but is on a ventilator alternating with CPAP via a
tracheostomy
. He can’t speak because of the
tracheostomy
and has no movement at all in his right side. We obviously haven’t even able to visit him because if Covid and he is now refusing FaceTime visits.

Mom off sedation but not responding
Hello, I found this site yesterday and feel it’s been the only one I can find any comfort in. My mom (81, does not have COVID) was having dinner on the 23rd and started choking. We tried the Heimlich maneuver and managed to remove some but then my mom just collapsed. We couldn’t find a pulse and couldn

My husband passed from Covid complications
Hi I’ve been lurking on this forum since my husband was admitted to the hospital November 14 with Covid. His condition worsened and he was put on a ventilator 10 days later November 24. He stayed intubated and sedated in a coma for two weeks. They gave him a tracheotomy and he awoke from the coma. He

Update on my dad (and me)
They don’t think a
tracheostomy
would be fair on him. He now has a DNRCPR in place which we accept, but they were looking for our input on if my dad should be reintubated should he require it. We haven’t given it yet.

Has anyone suffered really bad fatigue after brain injury? Does anyone have any advice? X
My partner is in rehab (his injury happened at the end of July) at the moment but is so fatigued almost all the time that it is preventing rehab and even weaning him off of his
tracheostomy
despite managing his own secretions with a strong cough etc.

ICU agitation and fluctuations in settings. Anyone else going or have gone through this?
They quickly sedated him and had to ventilate him again until he settled and they then were able to lower him down a little to allow for the CPAP ASB mode They think that the tube may be making him uncomfortable and agitated so they have swapped this out after a
tracheostomy
, which is common after this

Wheelchair Head support available
The problem was twofold in that she couldn’t hold her head up since her neck muscle spasm was continually pushing her chin into her chest and this caused further difficulties since she had a
tracheostomy
and needed NIPI ventilation.

She was intubated and in an induced coma for 3 weeks and she fighting sedation through the 3 weeks of being in ICU but she couldn't wake up with the tube so she was fitted with a
tracheostomy
. She is now on 3 lots of medication which treat epilepsy which she didn't have before this.

How to stop reflux related aspirating issues with PEG /PEG-J in PSP?
I am looking for some advice on what else we can try before going to
tracheostomy
route? There must be some stronger medicine to stop reflux or help digesting the food even quicker. Many thanks Asli #psp #peg #pegj #pej #

Endocarditis complications
Tracheostomy
was done last week. Since then, he has been off sedation and pain meds. All numbers are improving, breathing at cpap setting even, responds to pain stimuli, opens eyes, but will not follow commands. Doctors are not helpful/hopeful and blaming it on “everything he’s been through”.

4 weeks of ICU delirium after cardiac arrest, brain damage or part of ICU recovery?
On Day 7 he had a
tracheostomy
and started to obey simple commands. On Day 10 he started to speak very softly, recognising family and asking nurses for tea. Today (Day 38) he is able to go for 15 minute assisted walks with the physios and able to breathe on his own. The problem is his ICU delirium.

mum isn't following commands, after an open heart surgery and minor strokes . Is there hope ? 🙏
They put her back on sedatives and replaced breathing tube with
tracheostomy
. Meanwhile they did Ct scan Which shows minor strokes. She has been off sedatives since Monday and today is day 6. She is still unresponsive. She opens her eyes but is not following commands.

Just need to vent :(
They were finally able to place a
tracheostomy
and G tube on her for feeding. He propofol has been off since Monday and despite countless attempts, they could not take her off high doses of Fentanyl.
