Update on mum who is ventilated for 63days
She still has the
tracheostomy
on, however she had done 12 hours ventilator free breathing yesterday, she handled it well and reached her target. Her target today is to reach 24 hour ventilator free breathing. She sat on a chair as part of her physio yesterday and has said I love you to my sister.

Sedation on ventilator
The dr decided a
tracheostomy
was the best option for him so the sedation could be reduced. The
tracheostomy
was 2 days ago. They have reduced his sedation down enough so he can open his eyes. I have video called with him but I’m worried as he just isn’t responding.

My obsessive researching my actually be paying off
What has been panicking me a lot the last few days is the doctors had said that due to his age, the length of time he’s been battling this, and that his pre COVID left sided stroke paralysis that now seems to have returned, they didn’t want to reintubate or perform a

Encouragement and a question
The history is: 5 weeks fully sedated ICU;
tracheostomy
fitted; 3 weeks to fully wake up; 2 weeks with MRSA; transfer to Renal unit for 3 weeks. Weakness on right side - no grip in hand and sore shoulder. Kidneys not working well. Stepped down to general ward this week for rehab.

on Monday, hopefully my Dad can be strong enough to make it to that point. Thank you so much

December 28th The day our lives changed
So 18 days after he was first placed on life support they did a
Tracheostomy
. I was told it was needed or my husband who is 70 would never talk or eat again. We agreed. At this point he was now Covid negative. 2 day's after the procedure they started to wake up my husband.

Fighting Covid on tracheostomy ventilator
Day 35 on ventilator and my mum is doing 65 breaths a minute. Has anyone managed to get their breaths back to normal? Her lungs are damaged by Covid and she developed lung fibrosis.

Stroke that caused brain hemorrhage, 22 days & still not fully conscious.
He had a shunt placed & a
tracheostomy
performed about a week or two ago, he was moved from the ICU to a rehabilitation hospital specifically for his brain injury care.

Pressure support on a ventilator.
Does anyone know what pressure support on a ventilator ? We’ve just had a worrying phone call from the hospital that the pressure support has gone up from 12 to 15 ( the nurse said this is the maximum on the ventilator) the peep is 5 and the oxygen has gone up to 55% to 65%??. From being stable at 40%

Dad diagnose with COVID-19- suffered from pneumonia, cardiac and kidney failure
They could not do a
tracheostomy
due to his body is too weak to proceed with this procedure. He’s now under observation and they want his oxygen level required to remain at 50% to proceed with
tracheostomy

Cardiac Arrest leading to induced coma. Eyes open but no response and moves head lots.
Hello everyone, I just wanted some advice. My father is 63 and had a cardiac arrest on the 21/01/21. It took several moments to revive him and get a heart beat. He was taken to hospital and was said to be able to follow verbal command in morning. He was able to breath for 45minutes but struggled thereafter

Distress coming out of sedation - have you experienced this?
They are performing a
tracheostomy
either today or tomorrow as the doctor isn’t happy that he isn’t progressing. But I don’t know what happens after that.

Desperately wanting to visit mum who is not waking up from sedation
Weeks on she’s still depended on oxygen and has currently a
tracheostomy
a recent move from the ET tube. She is at second attempt of weaning as first attempt she developed a bad case of delirium resulting her oxygen to drop.. She no longer is sedated (for the last 5days) and isn’t waking up.

What is the oxygen weaning process once tracheotomy is done? Is it weaning or shut down of oxygen?
What an amazing site! It’s nice to know I’m not alone! There are so many people experiencing the same thing. It’s hard to see my dad in icu fighting for his life! Covid pneumonia, pulmonary embolism, diabetic, urinary retention, kidneys failing, inflammation, water around lungs, ventilator now with

Partner suffered cardiac arrest
They’ve done a
tracheostomy
on him as he was biting down on his tube whilst on sedation hold, so they’ve been able to have him on and off sedation for the last day or so.
