What is the Importance of Platelet Counts in MPNs
“In fact, large studies have shown really no correlation between higher platelet counts and an increased risk of
thrombosis
. If there’s anything that’s certain, it’s that if platelet counts get to maybe over a million or over 1.5 million, there’s an increased risk of bleeding that occurs.”

I have some severe issues - pancreatitis, splenic thrombosis, pancreas-colonic fistula.
I have Pancreatitis with pseudocyst and necrosis in tail, chronic splenic
thrombosis
with varicosities, and pancreatic-colonic fistula. I'm sure it started with excessive alcohol, which I stopped completely 7 months ago. Many doctor visits and CT scans later I have the conditions listed above.

United States APS Doctor Specialist List
I had one
thrombosis
event (CRVO) in May 2022 and then was diagnosed with APS shortly thereafter. I have only been on aspirin, which was input from an ophthalmologist, a hematologist, and a vascular specialist. Now the hematologist wants me to go on Warfarin.

A safer anticoagulant on the way?
A new type of anticoagulant has just come out of trials and seems to be hopeful in preventing
thrombosis
whilst reducing bleed risk:- [i]"It has been discovered that factor XI has a really unique position in the cascade of how our body forms clots in that it seems to be important in clot formation,

Coagulation markers as independent predictors of prostate cancer aggressiveness.
Indeed, the first sign of PCa in some men may be a deep vein
thrombosis
[DVT. The study authors wondered if there were coagulation factors associated with aggressive disease. Only fibrinogen & D-dimer were determined to be associated with high-risk disease.

Blood clots in calf
Has anyone had issues with blood clots (superficial vein
thrombosis
) in their legs? In April I thought I’d just pulled a calf muscle but on the advice of my Pilates teacher (!)

just diagnosed
For the past nine years I have been experiencing all the common symptoms of PV and have had three embolitic events, a DVT, Pulmonary embolism and a cerebral venous
thrombosis
. I was treated for other things and no specific blood tests were ever done.

Impact of short-term exposure to air pollution on natural mortality and vulnerable populations: a multi-city case-crossover analysis
However, this study suggested differences in risk of death for people with preexisting conditions (
thrombosis
, cardiovascular diseases, asthma, diabetes and thyroid affections), season of death (May–September vs October–April) and levels of built-up area in the neighborhood (for NO2).

Thrombosis score
Is there such a thing as a
thrombosis
score? I see it mentioned in the odd article? If so what affects this risk. I have a follow up appointment next week. At the moment I am on watch and wait for primary MF intermediate 1, with mutations JAK 2, 32% and DNMT3A 20%.

Statin use, survival and incidence of thrombosis among older patients with polycythemia vera and essential thrombocythemia
Conclusions These findings suggest that it may be important to incorporate statins into the therapeutic strategy for older adults with PV and ET. https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/cam4.6528

Newly diagnosed
Following a
thrombosis
2 years ago antiphospolipids negative and lupus anticoagulant negative. In October last year I woke up with a sore eye which was diagnosed as scleritis but didn't get managed well, eye drops of varying strengths not sufficient to knock it on head.

Graduated - again!
It is 15 months since I hobbled home with a calf strain when trying to re-do C25K after a skin cancer diagnosis the previous year, 12 months since my breast cancer diagnosis and 5 months since I was advised to do only gentle exercise following a deep vein
thrombosis
in my leg.

Apixapan
I think therefore that given my history of Portal Vein
Thrombosis
and ongoing issues with the likely hood of gastrointestinal bleeding that perhaps Apixaban would be the better option for me.

A real-world study of predictors of response to hydroxyurea and switch to ruxolitinib in patients with polycythemia vera
Achieving a response defined by European LeukemiaNet with HU was not associated with a reduced risk of
thrombosis
(p = 0.86), decreased risk of disease progression (p = 0.9), or reduced risk of death (p = 0.86).
