I would like to know from anyone else that has had a splenectomy, if they are more prone to getting ill.
What is the experience of anyone else that has ITP and has had a
splenectomy
.

From one extreme to the next! Does anyone feel like their body is letting them down :/
After that my heamatoligist decided that we would go ahead and do a
splenectomy
. At this stage I was all for it as my veins were collapsing due to all the needles, etc. My
splenectomy
went ahead Sept 26th 2013 by laparoscopic surgery. I woke in a lot of pain.

Hi, I would be very grateful for any links to ITP Support Association or NHS materials regarding vaccinations required post-
splenectomy
. I'm in-between immunosuppressant treatments and would like to get finally vaccinated. Many thanks

No Splenectomy after all
I am happy to report that my count has risen to 44 so the threat of a
Splenectomy
has gone away. I have not been this high in years, must have been all the greek cocktails I had on holiday !!

Husband was diagnosis with ITP and they want to do Splenectomy?
They have just done a couple things to help him (iv antibiotic treatment, lyphectomy and IV globulin) I am very confused and not sure if the splencecomy is safe and will help.

Is Pregnancy induced ITP can go away after delivery ?
Kindly suggest whether we go for CS with

Friday I have my splenectomy consultation
I am really nervous to think about having surgery. It will be the first time, but I know that there's a 70% that this surgery will help me with my ITP. I don't want to be taking prednisone all my life. I have already been taking it for 2 years.

MMF and chicken pox
I have also had
splenectomy
10 years ago. I am going to celebrate Christmas with a family with kids who are having or just had chicken pox. I had chicken pox 20 years ago in my early teens.

Indium screening test
If in the liver then the chances of a
splenectomy
working are very low so you can save your spleeen. If in the spleen then chances of success are high but it's still not certain as the liver can take over where the spleen leaves off.
