One step forward, two steps back.
Since last December I've been really struggling with my IBS. Constant dull throbbing pains in my sides and abdomen, needing the loo 7 or 8 times one day, unable to go the next, always feeling either anxious or down. I was very stressed at work which I feel was the main contributing factor back in December

What can I do to improve hair structure?
I started thyroxine and a gluten free diet 3 years ago, and since have had wiry hair. I used to have silky hair before. Is there anything I can take (that's not meat) to improve hair quality? Most hair supplements seem to have iodine, and I've heard mixing thyroxine and iodine aren't a good match.

Coeliac Disease and bowel disease - is there anything left to eat?!!! :-(
I was diagnosed approximately a year ago with Coeliac Disease following symptoms during the previous 2 years and a stillbirth at almost 38 weeks. Following diagnosis my symptoms didn't improve whilst on a gluten free diet and a colonoscopy showed that I also have lymphocytic colitis (microscopic bowel

Ignorance of other diners when eating out
I've just survived 2 weeks in Tenerife eating out every night without being glutened! I know the Spanish are well up on coeliac and gluten but this is the first time I've eaten out every day on holiday, it's still a stressful business though. We did go back to the restaurants we felt were making an

What If ?
What if you saw your consultant gastro and told them you were having health issues with the gluten free diet? What if you were referred to a higher Gastro consultant and said "I am having problems with the gluten free diet", so within months a statement is made by the higher consultant "Is well on

How would you know if you couldn't have oats?
Hiya.. I'm a dignosed coeliac by bloods and biopsy. I suffer no outward symptoms of consuming gluten. I have been adhering to my gluten free diet for quite some time now. My dietician suggested I try eating oats for breakfast as I was suffering something quite like hypos even tho I am not diabetic

Would using a showerhead filter help to ease dermatitis herpetiformis itchiness?
While the DH rashes are most definitely clearing four months into a gluten-free diet, I still have an itchy scalp, and a friend suggested a showerhead filter might help. Apparently impurities and chlorine in water can aggravate (or even cause) dry or itchy skin conditions, especially in hard water areas

The difference between coeliac disease and gluten sensitivity
Finally, I've had my biopsy results back. I do not have coeliac disease, but have been advised to stay on the gluten free diet anyway. I am lucky that there was a recent article in the BMJ recognising gluten sensitivity as a separate entity, which I guess is what I have! I came across

Is it worth taking vitamin supplements when first diagnosed with coeliac disease?
I already take a liquid iron supplement, as I have been anaemic for a number of years, but am uncertain whether it would benefit me to take anything else. On the one hand, my system is almost certainly nutritionally depleted, as I have only recently been diagnosed and adopted a totally gluten-free

Hi folks: Sharing material below because of homocysteine connection with PA. In earlier material I submitted about tests suggested for PA, homocysteine levels test is one in their list. Do some people choose a gluten free diet even if they are not intollerent or have ceoliac disease and why?
My daughter ordered me a gf pizza from Dominoes and was asked "is the patient (not customer !!) suffering from Ceoliac Disease or just prefers GF?". I didn't realise people chose GF even if they don't need to. Why do they do this is a GF diet healthier?

Pain 4 days after endoscopy, is this normal?
My 15yo son had his endoscopy on Friday to confirm coeliac. We are pretty sure he has it, bloods and camera suggest it and younger brother already diagnosed. He was in a bit of discomfort over the weekend but last night tummy pains got worse (he describes it like someone poking him with a spoon from

I have a problem! I appear to be allergic to the rice protein, and this limits me more on diet choices, does anyone have any suggestions?
I am as yet an undiagnosed Coeliac, but I have been advised to follow a Gluten free diet by my GP until I have tests next month, but I also appear to be allergic to the protein in rice, so am more limited on my diet, i can't have rice noodles, rice paper, anything containing rice, I am also finding problems

Should I have an endoscopy?
Hi everyone, I'm new to the community and pretty scared and confused about having Coeliac Disease. If you could give any advice that would be great. I had blood tests in November 2012 to check my liver and kidney function, to check my iron levels and to check for thyroid problems and Coeliac Disease
