update on statins, Leflunomide & biphosphates
Medic 2 - my Rheumy who I expected to press me to take
Leflunomide
to help reduce prednisolone as I’ve struggled to get below 20mg for any length of time. She listened, agreed when I said I wanted to give my system a breather from any new drug.

Morning cortisol test results have arrived.
(I should mention that I’m still taking
Leflunomide
10mg daily for Aortitis.)

Finally a little light!
A few weeks ago I had another steroid injection and
leflunomide
added to my MTX. I hardly dare say this but I'm actually starting to feel better. My joints have gone down so much that I put my wedding ring back on yesterday!

Inflammatory arthritis & pulmonary embolisms?
My Rheumatologist first tried methotrexate and then
leflunomide
but both caused elevated ALT levels (despite going alcohol free) & were stopped. I am seeing him again next week to try a third medication, so in effect my arthritis has been totally uncontrolled for years.

Consultation with Prof Rod Hughes
His choice for me should I need one would be
Leflunomide
. - he looked at my private DEXA scan results from March 24 and said they were average for a person my age and wouldn’t recommend that I take a Bisphosonate. Instead of my yearly scan he recommended that I have one every three years.

Leflunomide and GCA
I have to discuss taking
leflunomide
with my rheumy team this month so I've been researching here and elsewhere. I came across this paper which I didn't find on this forum and thought others may be interested. (Of course it may have been linked before and I simply didn't find it!)

Still trying to keep up the optimism
She’s added
Leflunomide
and said to try it and see how it goes and be optimistic! Whilst I am usually a sunny and optimistic person I feel my glass of optimism is actually quite empty at the moment so I’m looking for a refill.

Good news/bad news
Because I have such active disease she didn’t want to leave me with no meds at all, so we decided to restart the
leflunomide
and see how the blood results go in two week, then make another plan. So took my mum off to Blackpool to a lovely hotel for a few days.

Blood results - liver issue
I have been on MTX for a year and
leflunomide
since end of March this year. I really feel like I have turned a corner, especially with my hands and feel quite optimistic for the first time in a while. Yesterday I got a call from rheumy nurse concerned about my blood test, specifically my liver.

Blood pressure monitor advice
I started taking
Leflunomide
today and know one of the regular things to be monitored is my blood pressure. To save the 8 mile (45 minute) round trip to the GP surgery I was wondering if it was worth me purchasing a monitor. But the choice is bewildering and prices seem to vary considerably.

DAS score increase
I was on MTX for nearly a year, but couldn’t tolerate side effects.. then been on
Leflunomide
for 5 months. Rheumy now wants me to start on biologic. I have always had low CRP but have active disease and swollen right hand, and very painful knees.

Leflunomide.. ?
My consultant would consider switching me to
Leflunomide
.. this would be my third DMARD in 10 months. I really can’t face another new medication - I’m sensitive to most - but any experiences (I know everyone is different) would be appreciated. Thank you

Skin sensitivity to the sun when taking methotrexate
I've just had a message from my GP practice reminding me that certain drugs including methotrexate and
leflunomide
make your skin more susceptible to damage from the sun.https://www.arthritis.org/drug-guide/medication-topics/sun-sensitivity

Finally got my Neurosurgeon appointment!
I’m currently taking
Leflunomide
and Hydroxychloroquine and spoke to the Rheumy nurse yesterday about whether I stop them for surgery. She suggested I ask at the pre-op assessment which is next week.

Side Effects Damaging Kidneys and Liver
I have been on
Leflunomide
, which is supposed to be kinder to liver and kidneys, for six months. So far that drug has the most side effects and has been the least effective controlling symptoms.
