New to group

Hi I have just discovered this group and for my first post I though I would post my heart problems story. Last year I was diagnosed with Dilated Cardiomyopathy and had a severe case of heart failure. I had just turned 38 at the time. I had a bad case of flu for a few weeks before the diagnosis. All

Introduction of myself, PMF, from China

Hi, I'm Qi, from China, I'm 34 years old this year. I confirmed PMF in 2017. At that time, the splenomegaly was high, but it was not very high, and it was not so high all the time. These symptoms began to happen to me one after another as early as 2013. JAK2V617F gene mutation, there is only one mutation

Scientists identify virus-cell interaction that may explain COVID-19's high infection rate.

Lehigh researchers quantify the specific interaction between the spike protein of SARS-CoV-2 — the virus that causes COVID-19 — with the ACE2 receptors in human cells that may partially explain its high infection rate compared to SARS-CoV-1. Shielding and Furlough.

Hi all, I've just seen a post from Maz about a letter for Gp's regarding people with MPN's being clinically vulnerable and how to add them to the shielding list. This raises questions for me... I have been furloughed throughout Covid19 and as a result have only received 80% of my wage for a full year

Does anyone know anything about the use of deflazacort instead of prednisone for PMR?

Searching the web tonight for prednisone information, I came across deflazacort for the first time. It seems to have better characteristics in terms of less bone loss and other side effects. The article I found (link below) talks about kidney transplantation; does anyone know whether it is being used

Alternatives to Atorvastatin

Hi all, long story short, I was placed on Atorvastatin I. February after a Cardiac Arrest and then a TIA (lucky me). Turns out my cholesterol was 6.9. I tolerated the drug really well, and my cholesterol came down to 2.35, except it sent my liver into overdrive. My GP told me to stop the statin and have

G6PD blood deficiency

Hi everyone, I have G6PD deficiency and although not life-threatening as long as I stay clear of the list of substances that can cause an allergic reaction, I have recently been reading about some studies that highlight a concerning correlation between Coronavirus and people with the same condition as

There is fun to be had and there's always room for change

Mum eventually went on haemodialysis and after six months of being on the transplant list, she received a very healthy kidney which lasted the rest of her life. She never made a 'thing' of it, but I wish she had told me more. And this is what I would say to anyone. TALK!!

TRAVELLING ABROAD, POST LIVER TRANSPLANT.

Hello there everyone. I received a list of recommended providers from the administrators on here but I seemed to

Spinal Fusion-break Identified while being on the Lung Transplant List.

Good evening all, I have been listed on the Lung Transplant List for over 2 1/2 years now. They noticed right at the start of my evaluation that I had the start of osteoporosis which they put down to years of taking prednisolone. Even though I had this they were still happy to list me. I have recently
