Great article - written for Thyroid UK for their quarterly 'Harmony Magazine' by Professor Graham Hughes
Hughes Syndrome usually responds well to treatment of the ‘sticky blood’ – with either baby aspirin (75mgs once a day) or with
heparin
(now widely used in Hughes Syndrome pregnancy), or, in more severe cases, with warfarin.

J.L. was given a trial of
heparin
– with complete resolution of the migraines. She is now headache-free on warfarin and we are considering one of the new oral anticoagulants. What is this patient teaching us?

Waiting for my test results
It would be nice for the doctors to find that warafin or
heparin
would help. So I am patiently waiting for my test results. Thank you again for all the great information in your posts. I feel like after 25 years of being on my own, I’ve finally found my group. :-)

Has anyone lost their baby at 21 weeks gestation because of lupus? Any advice anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated.
I have lupus and have been told i have to take
heparin
and aspirin everyday throughout my next pregnancy. Losing my son has affected me massively and its still rather fresh with it being only 3 months ago. But myself and my partner wish to try again soon.

MIL just wants a boy!!!!! When we know it's a girl
The pregancy has also not been entirely easy as I was down with sickness until 20 weeks and on
heparin
injections as I have a lupus anticoagulant positive. For us to be progress so far is nothing short a miracle looking at my past history and we found out its a little princess we are getting.

I started Warfarin in March and live in New York. I don't love the testing and diet restrictions. What are the generic alternatives?
Is Fragmin a generic form of
Heparin
? Are there any alternatives in generic form that do not require testing and diet restrictions? I have APS and am being tested for Lupus. I had a stroke in March. I am ambulatory, initially lost my speech but have almost totally regained it.

Bisoprolol and Tinnitus
Hi all I was prescribed Bisoprolol 3 years ago for Atrial Flutter. Soon after I started experiencing Pulsating Tinnitus on and off and then noticed my hearing had deteriorated. I recently had a hearing test ( was causing my family frustration as was misinterpreting everything they said!!) I was told

First time using heparin
Too much information :) Today my INR was 1.9 I am not sure if I have done the right thing but I asked about
heparin
as I feel so awful. My GP agreed that a prophylactic dose should be given over the weekend and then a repeat INR done on Monday.

Despite her past history, the patient is planning another pregnancy (for certain to be treated with
heparin
and aspirin!). I will keep you posted. What is this patient teaching us? The G.P. was right. Hughes syndrome is more than likely to be the underlying problem.

Clexane injections, does it get any easier?? How is it monitored?
Previous
heparin
injections (admittedly over a much shorter time span) did not have an after sting/burning sensation. Is this me? does it improve?

Clexane injection this morning
I gave myself
Heparin
injections in my tummy about a year ago, but for some reason I feel very nervous this morning. Well, I guess I had better get on with it or I won't be able to have the epidural on Monday morning which does give me good pain relief after 3 days.

Warfarin not in range so on it plus Heparin. Joints in hands and wrist, knees and one heel painful - why?
This means I have to inject
Heparin
(well family do as I can't stand needles) until it goes above 2. I have noticed my joints are really aching which they don't do when Warfarin is at the top of my range 3-3.5, does this mean that
Heparin
doesn't work for me?

Oil Pulling. Does anyone Oil Pull?
I was on
heparin
during my pregnancy but now I only take aspirin. It was strange the first few times. I pull when I wake up & get ready by the time I'm done my shower & dressed the 20min is up. I was wondering if anyone else does it or has tried & if it helped with any APS symptoms?
