Avodart when off ADT a mistake?
If one is trying to prevent prostate cancer cells from becoming insensitive to ADT, then is it wise to continue
dutasteride
while on the off cycle?

DHT / Avodart
There have been some negative posts regarding the potential benefit of
Dutasteride
[Avodart] against PCa. Dr Myers used Avodart in men on ADT who nonetheless produced significant levels of dihydrotestosterone [DHT]. (The true target of ADT is DHT - not testosterone [T].)

More importantly, perhaps, in a Mayo paper [5] from 2007: "We have demonstrated that the 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor
dutasteride
, at clinically relevant levels, inhibits FASN mRNA, protein expression and enzymatic activity in prostate cancer cells."

Dutasteride and Tamoxifen (T->DHT blocker and SERM)
I have prostate cancer and am doing cycles of casodex/
dutasteride
/zytiga, then estrogen patches/zytiga, then testosterone injections/
dutasteride
. Should Tamoxifen only be used during the estrogen patch/zytiga portion of the cycle? Thanks

Cycle estrogen and casodex/dutasteride
So I am going on a combo of casodex and
dutasteride
. Casodex blocks androgen receptors and
dutasteride
stops T to DHT conversion (about 90% effective).

Early Dutasteride Monotherapy in Patients With Elevated PSA Following Robot-Assisted Radical Prostatectomy
All patients received a daily dose of 0.5 mg of
dutasteride
when post-RARP PSA levels were increasing but had not achieved biochemical recurrence. PSA levels were monitored every 3 months after
dutasteride
administration.

Surprising tE2 (transdermal estradiol) results...fifth update
The only other med that I am currently taking is a 0.5 mg
dutasteride
capsule every third day due to its long half life. I am going to reduce my dosage of the gel since my PSA and T levels have dropped to such low levels.

Prostate cancer G9 local lymph node positive. Pos margin.
So I started casodex/
dutasteride
(150mg caso a day and 0.5mg duta). Libido is better than zero but still very very low. Strength loss seems to have reversed but perhaps too early to tell (I've been on this combo for 13 days).

Dutasteride & prostate-specific membrane antigen (PSMA) expression.
We have previously shown that high doses of
dutasteride
, a 5α-reductase inhibitor generally used for the treatment of benign prostatic enlargement, increase the PSMA expression in vitro. We now further analyzed the concentration- and time-dependent effects of
dutasteride
in LNCaP cells.

Celebrating with a visit for Canadian Ducoral
ON Monday I will start on Degarelix, (my bicalutamide with
dutasteride
regimen failing after 4+ years.) I'll probably keep the
dutasteride
as it keeps adrenal androgens from being metabolized to the most active form. (DHT) Wondering if estradiol would be a good addition at this time.

combining Abiraterone with Avadart have synergistic benefit
Pairing abiraterone (abi) with the enzyme inhibitor
dutasteride
modifies abi’s metabolic conversion, blocking production of a tumor-promoting metabolite while aiding accumulation of another metabolite with strong anti-tumor effects, Dr. Sharifi and colleagues report in Nature.

5ARIs & the PCa Masking issue.
The Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial (PCPT) & the Reduction by
Dutasteride
of Prostate Cancer Events [REDUCE] study showed that Finasteride &
Dutasteride
, respectively could lower the incidence of lesser cancer. PCa-related PSA due to low-level PCa was therefore also reduced.

BAT stumped, padding up for second innings
The second is that
dutasteride
, the best 5AR inhibitor has a biological half life of about 6 weeks which means I would need to wait for about 6 months after failure to let it wash through before starting BAT again.

Testosterone.
We have seen two PCa prevention trials that sought to protect men by lowering dihydrotestosterone [DHT] levels: (1) the Reduction by
Dutasteride
of Prostate Cancer Events (REDUCE) trial & (2) the {Finasteride} Prostate Cancer Prevention Trial (PCPT).
