'MENS' (magneto-electric nanoparticles) - the next gen of DBS?
Excerpt: "With a magnet placed over the head of each subject animal, the particles were pulled through the blood-brain barrier, where they “coupled” the externally created magnetic field with the brain’s intrinsic electric field. This enabled researchers to wirelessly connect their computers and electronics

Sierra Farris Blog
I've seen several people mentioned how good Sierra is at DBS programming. I agree she's been doing my programming for the past 5 months and we are almost there. Here is her blog on DVS which many may find helpful. http://www.dbsprogramming.com/author/dbsprogramming/

DBS update
It's 5 months since I underwent this procedure. I was programmed by my local neuro with some good results. However at my last visit she stated that I was doing great and should wait 8 weeks for follow up. I described my off times as increasing and my gait pretty poor from 6-9pm as dismally slow.

Elevated platelets low ferritin - any advice?
Hi all, Just a query in case anyone can help. I have been barking up so many trees recently (see my other posts) and I am finally starting to get somewhere with getting a private endo to look at my hypothyroid type symptoms (feeling cold, low basal temp, severe mental fog, multi-joint and muscle pain

B12 Deficiency - Evaluating Cognitive Disfunction
Helvella recently posted this very important link, which could be another vital tool in the battle for B12 treatment - reading it made me wonder why our family had to fight so hard for our relative to obtain B12 tests and treatment after wrongly diagnosed dementia & ME when this information was out there

Left Leg Pain
I am a 71 year old female, diagnosed with Pd for 20 years. Three years ago, I had very successful bilateral DBS surgery. For several years I have had left leg pain. I have had several cortisone injections in L4 and L5 also in my hamstring bursa. None have improved the pain. Does anyone have any thoughts

Ritalin for gait freezing?
I've had PD for 18 years (I'm 52 now). Had DBS surgery 4 1/2 years ago. The physical symptom that still gives me the most trouble -- not helped by either the meds or the surgery -- is gait freezing, and subsequent falling. My MD just prescribed a low dosage of Ritalin for this, and I haven't filled

Need help with weird iron blood test results
Hi I've been hypo for about 2 years and am now on 175mcg thyroxine with a suppressed TSH of 0.03. I've had ongoing issues with very low ferritin which doesn't rise much on supplementation. My levels from last week's blood test were: Ferritin 19ug/L 9 (15-200) LOW Iron 39umol/L (10-30) ABNORMALLY HIGH

Musical abilities post DBS
I am curious if anyone has noticed a change in their musical skills. I have recently underwent DBS and it seams that my percussion skills have improved. I have played drums most of my life but only as an a amateur. Currently I don't have a drum kit but my son does so I'm planning to challenge myself

Deep brain stimulation for pain?
Hi, I was just wondering if any One has had, or been referred for DBS surgery for chronic pain? My neurologist has just referred me, but due to the cost of it he said it might be a fight with my GPs, and commissioner to have it done. I'm scared, as I have no one to talk to about it, and I can't find
