Why do you need cholesterol?
This was copied from an email I got so don’t go shooting the messenger if you don’t agree :). “I have been trying for years, decades actually, to raise my cholesterol. Finally after a more significant (call it strict if you like) change in diet, it’s happening and that’s a good thing. You see, low cholesterol

Plant Sterols and Levothyroxine
Being hypothyroid my cholesterol levels have been quite high-last reading was 7, 2 years ago. Have been using a proactive margerine as don't want to go on statins. Has anyone had any success with plant sterol supplements? Are they tolerated with levothyroxine? Any anecdotal experiences would be appreciated

Does Prednisolone affect Cholesterol levels and blood pressure??
Hi. Back in February (pre PMR) my cholesterol was HDL - 1.5 and LDL 3.8. Six months later (four months after commencing Pred) my levels are now HDL - 2.4 and LDL - 5.0!! My levels have never moved by much over the years and this was something of a shock particularly as it has happened so quickly.

High cholesterol in family question
In my mums side of the family high cholesterol seems to be an issue. It’s not been confirmed that it’s FE but my uncle at the age of 51, slim, healthy, non-smoker and had a clean diet, had a massive heart attack. He passed away a few years ago at 66 due to heart failure. He was told it was caused by

Kidney and liver issues with high thyroid antibodies?
I am wondering if any Hoshimoto sufferers with high antibodies also have poor kidney and liver numbers in their bloodwork? This is the case with my 71 year old husband. He takes Armour 135mg daily and his most recent T4 and T3 were the best they have EVER been with T3 in upper 75% range and T4 under

Reduction of blood tests due to shortage of tubes
Yesterday I read in the BBC news that a women had been refused her thyroid bloods test along with a cholesterol test due to shortages in England and Wales of blood test tubes. Has anyone been refused recently. I also read the situation will get worse and will continue for months, which is very concerning

Lay off the Atorvo, mate!
I am prescribed 40mg Atorvastatin daily, to combat my cholesterol level, and I'm all right with it. I have read that porage oats have the effect of "soaking-up" cholesterol: if that is so, can I take a bowl of porage oats, with water and a little milk only, and miss out the Atorvastatin, at least some

Here are my latest blood results through Medichecks. I’m pretty surprised as I had been on a very strict detox/clean way of eating. I take 18.25 of T3 daily and 50/75 mcg Levothyroxine (alternate days) on the advice of my Endo since starting T3 last October. I’m guessing I need to increase either T4

Associations of fat and muscle mass with overall survival in men with prostate cancer: a systematic review with meta-analysis
New study below. [1] I think it clarifies claims that "fat" has a survival value - which contradicted many studies that found higher BMI to be risk factor. It has long been recognized that the body mass index [BMI] is a poor surrogate for visceral fat. Visceral fat - including periprostatic fat - is

So I started levothyroxine about 4 months ago. A couple of months at 25mg. Then onto 50mg. At the time my vit D was low at 22. And my cholesterol high at 8.1mmol and my triglycerides at 6.45. My endo put me on fenofibrate to bring the triglycerides down. My latest results attached. Please note,

The role of vitamin D in subjective tinnitus—A case-control study
Tinnitus and Vitamin D are both frequently mentioned here. Add in the TSH and this looks very interesting. Although I have long had tinnitus (and, as I type, it is driving me a bit bonkers), I have never noticed any obvious relationship with taking vitamin D supplements nor with levothyroxine dose.
