One Month ago My PSA was

8.17 U/ L. My Doctor prescribed me for 10 days to use Capsule Ciprofloxacin 500 mg 2 in a day aLongewith 1 Capsule Tamsulosin 0.4/0.5 mg daily.

After 10 days PSA was tested which came to 5.37 U/ L.

I urged my Dr. to continue antibiotic Ciprofloxacin for further 1Month.

He didn't agree by saying PSA will come down but by these results we will be misguided.

Hence continue only 1 capsule daily till 3 months.

What are your comments dear.

Regards.

I wouldn't want to contradict the doctor, but logic suggests that PSA will only come down if whatever is causing it is removed. My doctor told me that antibiotics would not bring my PSA down if it was caused by cancer. In my case it was obvious because my PSA did not come down. It may be in your case that your raised PSA was partly caused by inflammation and hence antibiotics treated this. I would say that further antibiotics may bring your PSA down further depending on how much it's caused by inflammation. But if you have some cancer cells, antibiotics would not bring your. PSA down to normal.

I can see why he says lowering your PSA will misguide him. But,

It's a shame he won't give further antibiotics. My doctor gave a month's course. After a month, I still had leukocytes in my urine. So he gave me another month's course of antibiotics. So I had 2 months. My PSA did not come down.

I understand that you wish the PSA to come down, but whatever any doctor says you need to know definitely what's causing it to go up. You could have a more definite answer if you had a biopsy.

Your doctor may be reluctant to do this because of the high risk of infection. I presume the one capsule is Tamuslosin. I also assume, if you take that and saw Palmerston for 3 months and your PSA is still up or higher then it would be best to have a biopsy.

I understand that the waiting and not knowing is horrible.

You r talking on very solid ground no doubt. My all family members have opinion to continue antibiotics Ciprofloxacin 500 mg for 10 days further.

But as a patient I am confused.

If you can discuss my case with your Doctor & tell what's his opinion. Patient can take 2/3 opinions to finalize his decision in one direction.

Your idea is good & I agree.

Sorry Ashraf, it isn't possible for me to even see the specialist doctor I referred to. So I cannot make such a request. I am also not qualified to argue with a doctor. I do wonder, if your doctor thought giving antibiotics would misguide him, why did he prescribe them at all. S ince I know nothing about your medical system, I can't really advise you. Of course I recognise not knowing will be distressing you. Perhaps you could request a biopsy. However, I think that me saying too much might make you more anxious.
