Having a flare-up sucks

Hi I just thought I'd share this with people who might understand. I was diagnosed with Sweet's in 2012. I had a small scratch on my arm that wouldn't heal. It took a few days until it resembled the typical lesion that anyone who has Sweet's knows. After a day or two it was quite large and very painful. Like being burned with a cigar from the inside. I also developed more lesions. Worried that it might be flesh eating disease I went to the E.R When they examined me they didn't know what it was so they placed me on a 5 day course of the super antibiotics. Of course it didn't work and I just got worse. I felt so bad and was quite sick. Finally when I got to see the dermatologist she knew exactly what it was and gave me prednisone. It worked well for me and eventually it cleared up. Since then I've had 3 flare ups with the lesions. I have also had some other symptoms that my dr. Can't seem to diagnose me with. I feel frustrated because I'm so tired all the time.

Hi Danae_mae,

Sorry to hear you've been having such a rough time.

There's a full list of SS symptoms on our blog: helpforsweetssyndromeuk.wor...

Sometimes, another treatment is given alongside or instead of prednisone, particularly if the SS needs to be managed in the longer term: helpforsweetssyndromeuk.wor...

Unfortunately, if SS has developed secondary to another condition it can be more difficult to manage. This is because if the underlying condition flares-up, then the SS often does too.

Michelle.

Thanks for your reply

I'm having a big flare up right now on my arms. I'm in pain, tired and feel terrible. I try to remain positive in front of my kids. I'm sure everyone knows that can be hard when you hurt and feel terrible. I don't feel like going back on prednisone since it causes such bad side effects itself. Therefore I haven't been back to my Dr. If I had a better Dr. I would go. It seems where I live good Dr.s are hard to find.
