YWA Feb Calendar: ALIGN

After this month’s January YWA journey, I’m all motivated again to continue with a ‘relaxed daily’ S&F practice. I left Yoga for ca 6 months last year, as I was doing regular extended stretching routines after rowing and running.

But having come back to Yoga late last year and having found this year’s January journey gorgeously soothing and strengthening for my whole body, mind and limbs, I’m all set again to commit to a daily Yoga/Pilates practice.

I will call it a ‘relaxed daily practice’, as

- Beyond yoga, I want to explore again some Pilates and also Tai Chi routines

- When I don’t manage to get to the mat the one or other day, I’ll not beat myself up over it.

But I’ve found that nothing benefits my limb’s stresses and tensions from running and rowing as well as a daily, gentle movement practice like YWA’s daily practice or a short Pilates routine.

It’s the daily-ness, necessarily gentle and incrementally progressive in its ability to strengthen the body and make it more mobile day by day, that makes it so special.

So here’s our February YWA calendar, promisingly called ALIGN.

And Adriene promises us that incremental strengthening when she duggests that it will help “ALIGN YOUR ATTENTION TO THE PRESENT MOMENT” and that with the daily practice, we are reminded that you “ARE AN ADAPTABLE CREATURE!”

So here is our virtual workout space all prepared and ready for the start on the first of February.

YWA February, here our YWA LINKS:

And the YWA playlist is here:

And if you are just joining us, big WELCOME to you and any new Virtual Workout Buddies! The daily practice of YWA calendar is perfect to get started with Yoga.

And feel free to - as Adriene says - “find what feels good”, meaning if your knees feel too sensitive, amend that Child’s Pose. And if you find full planks are the stuff of nightmares, rather do half planks than full ones. Do whatever feels right to get the maximum enjoyment from these daily sessions. And definitely get creative with props.

Here is a hopefully helpful post about YOGA props.

Here was my initial large collection of props, many of which I do not need anymore, but I certainly did in the beginning: healthunlocked.com/strength...

Upwards, crow-wards and down dog-wards another months practice!

(Save this post to get notified of any updates from everyone here on the mat.)

Happy working out everyone!

I came to ask for some ideas of what to do going forward and you had beaten me to it! I’ll have a look at this. I’m still feeling quite adrift a lot of the time but it’s improving so I’d definitely like to carry on. Thank you for your help with this!

That’s brilliant to hear. We’ll also have some gentle S&F challenges coming up, so they might help keep motivation up. This forum has certainly helped me keep motivated and to keep going. And the calendar from YWA is always there to drop in any day!

Fabulous! So good to hear!

thanks for this  CBDB 😊

Like you, I’m not stressing about missing days…I feel I’m doing enough.

Also not stressing about keeping up with the flows…..the pause button is mightily useful 😬

…and not beating myself up for *adapting* the postures that are just not for me…note: NOT missing/skipping or any other negative thought…

Find What Feels Good…indeed ☺️🧘🏻‍♀️💕

When I get off my mat my next job is printing the calendar out. Other years I've never managed to carry on for long with the daily practice but I'm going to give it another try 🤞 Like you I'm going to mix it by up with some Pilates so my aim will be one or the other every day 👍💪🧘‍♀️

👍🏽 we are the “occasional yogi but regular S&F club”. A bit of a mouthful … 🤔

Thanks very much for this I was also wondering what would help me to keep this in place. The daily practice does make a difference "on & off the mat" to quote Adrienne!! 😊Reassuring to hear others doing the same thing with pause button & missed days too. On the few days its happened i just slide it on to the next day & do 2 together!!I really like your suggestion of relaxed daily practice as my tai chi/ qigong hasn't been happening at all for quite a while.

Do you know of any similar daily practice guides. I often feel like I should be more self directed but do find it easier when I follow or join someone else...hmmmm maybe need to work on that one!

Thanks again for sharing.

I have something in mind for Tai Chi for later in the year, but much shorter, e.g. a 5 day challenge. But watch this space.

A fellow Pilates yogi might also be dropping a Pilates challenge in March.

And of course, we do have some multi-day challenges ready to go in our folder, including a 5-day Tai Chi one. See healthunlocked.com/strength...

But all of this is much more fun when others do it as well, isn’t it.

👏👏👍🏽

Did the 10min session this morning. Sometimes it’s really nice to have a really short one!

well I am three days in to align and I’m just beginning to see signs that I am getting stronger. I wasn’t sure what to expect from today’s session for scoliosis but I enjoyed it. I’m liking the mixture of a shortish run followed by the yoga but can’t always make the time work. I’m definitely going to keep it up!

It's great when you can feel your body starting to get stronger 💪I had to Google scoliosis 😂🤣😂

So far so good at the end of the first week, my weeks always end on Sunday and my plans are based on 4 week cycles rather than months. There's been a good mix of sessions but todays was a particularly fast paced flow. I ended up in my vest as I got so hot 🥵

brilliant! Yes, have been doing more free form yoga in the last couple of days revisiting some moves from January (because I have the vocabulary now! 😃😄😉), but will come back to Align every few days or so.

Hot yoga is a thing, I think! 🥵🥵 🤣🤣🤣

Day 6 (on Day 18) : Did the new CORE AND RESTORE practice just now. Very Pilates! 🙂😊👍🏽 (I do like her newer sessions better than her old ones, so I’ll give myself permission to chose from the monthly playlist. )
