Hi chellshock, Does your doctor know you are struggling with stairs? I ask because I too had this problem but as I had a stairlift I just used that and carried on. When I next saw my doctor and mention this she said she understood the temptation to use the stairlife because of the pain, however, I had developed Bursitis. This is when the sac of fluid at the top of leg becomes inflamed. It seems it is caused when we do not move our legs properly and not walking up and down stairs is a prime cause. The doctor suggested I begin with two steps and down and try to eventually begin the walk up the stairs. She was so right, I did as she suggested and although it was difficult and painful it was worth it. I have recently been ill for three weeks and therefore not going out (I live in a flat so no stairs internally) yes, the Bursitis has come back. Over the past two days I have been out and walked up and down the stairs and today my Bursitis receeding. This may not be your problem but whilst you are waiting to see the doctor I would give it a go. Take care and good luck, please let us know how you get on. Maximonkey

It’s not just because of pain I try to avoid the stairs it’s because for some reason my right leg keeps giving way leading to me falling. This happen the other week ended up with massive bruise on my leg and then again I fell down some stairs Sunday night and landed on my knees which caused a lot of pain to my right knee and a lot of bruising

Hi chellshock, yes I understand about the right leg being less strong and buckling. I too suffer with this but fortunately we have hand rails on both sides of the stairs and this enables me to walk up and down safely. Maybe this is something you could consider doing. I have been travelling this knee pain journey now for around 10 years and I have discovered one thing, if I stop doing something because it hurts then I need to find a solution. Arthritis is horrid and I now have it in my spine which causes sciatica down my right leg. Thankfully I have meds which work on this pain, gel for my legs and also strong painkillers which I use sparingly. Good luck with your knees, try to overcome problems by altering your environment. I have wooden floors now and no rugs so this has made a real difference. After years of falls, always on my knees, I am now able to walk around my home without hazards getting in the way. Take care Maximonkey
