I find myself declining grandchildren activities that involve alot of walking and/ or climbing, like the zoo. My horse riding used to be trail rides hours long in the woods, now maybe an hour here at the house. I am happy that I can still climb on my horse, even though I need a mounting block that is 3 steps😂. My horse is happy to just stand still and wait for me to get situated, lol. He probably rolls his eyes but I cant see it!!! So, even though my activities are scaled back some at age 65, I see too many others who are alot worse than me. I thank God every day for my good health, even though it's not perfect💜

The knee pain hinders my ability to run long distances. I did run a marathon last year but one knee gave out after 18 miles and the other one gave out after 20.

My knee pain has severely restricted my movement and activities. I also have DDD in my lower back so that adds a further complication to my ability to get around. I am only 56 and don't see this ever getting better 😭😭😭

Thank you for your kind words. I am enjoying reading other people's stories and experience of living with chronic pain 😀😀

I'm definitely less active. Used to be able to walk my dogs 4-5 miles daily and swam 3 times a week. Now I do walk my dogs most days but the walks are much shorter. On a very good day about a mile and a half to two is my maximum and may well finish me off for the rest of the day.

I've walked the dogs today and winced a few times as my knees hurt but just pushed on.

I can relate. On a good day, 1 1/2 miles is my max, but last winter I was down to less than 1/2 mile. It was embarrassing when I had to call my hubby to come pick me up at our mailbox as my knee wouldnt let me complete the 1/2 mi round trip!!!

I could be more active for my age (67), but for the ligament injuries to knee and ankle sustained years ago. Running is out - I am unable to walk for distances longer than half a km. at a stretch. I really miss the long walks I used to take years ago. I would pack my trainers even when I traveled out of town on work. I miss the ability to sit cross legged as the doc had said I should avoid it. I find too that when I sit for long stretches (at the computer, at an event), my knees feel stiff when I stand up and it takes quite a few steps to get moving properly.

*Well when i have the knee pain(mine comes and goes) I try not to do any activities that make it hurt more..I still try to keep going and do some kind of other exercise..

I cant do things like squats or anything like that..lunges be another one i cant do..On good days i even have issues with getting down low and back up...(stiff)

When i walk (which i love) I sometimes have inner knee pain and I never know when this might come on...I try to use real good insoles when i can, and i have to get new shoes often...if its real bad the pain, i take an anti inflammatory before i walk sometimes....

Yes I am more inactive than I care to be. Part of the reason is knee pain, also back pain doesn't help. I had to stop working at age 50 as a self employed mechanic, due to pain and exhaustion. Can't complain though and mustn't grumble, as I am enjoying myself with a bit of walking, cycling, and still have my workshop etc.

I am less active, but currently trying to improve that, plus the knee pain is not responsible for that situation alone. The thing I miss most is not being able to climb the way I used to. I now have real problems getting over fences, dykes and styles and have even bigger difficulty hunkering down. I'd say that is the single worst thing. I just cannot do it. I can get down, but I can't get back up. Once, a few years ago, when I was still attempting simple up and down movements, I went behind one of these cardboard cut-outs for kids to stick their faces through and have their photo taken. It involved me hunkering down behind it to stick my head through. By the time my photo was taken I couldn't get back up because my knees had seized. I fell flat on my bum and pulled the cardboard cut-out on top of me. Me having the photo taken was far more hilarious than the photo itself! Needless to say, I no longer attempt things like that. If I have to hunker I have to have a way to get back up or it's not happening!

I am less active, but hoping to go for longer walks as the knee improves. I no longer dare to kneel when gardening and that is so frustrating and hard on the back.

Hi Calvin, when my knee pain was at it's worst I could not walk far and found I could not climb stairs. I had a stairlift, so I began to use it to travel up the stairs, however, I began then to suffer with pain at the top of my legs and I could not lie on my side in bed because of the pain. It turned out to be Bursitis which is very painful. After speaking with the doctor I began slowly to walk up two steps and back down x 3 times daily increasing it as I felt stronger and eventually I could walk up all the stairs. My knee pain is good at the moment due to exercise in the pool and thankfully the Bursitis is also a thing of the past. Maximonkey

Yes I’m less active sadly. I can’t do any exercise and I can’t kneel. Very annoying, I avoid walking for too long, but cooking, cleaning, shopping etc can be really difficult. Anything that involves standing or walking.

Dancing! Oh! how I miss dancing! I think above all that's what I miss most because of the pain it causes my knees. A while back I went to an eighties themed charity night, leg warmers, big hair, the lot!! I felt really good and thought i would manage to shuffle my feet a bit on the dance floor- ok on the night - off my feet for a week!!

I also can't kneel so playing on the floor with my grandchildren is a no-no :-( and getting in and out of a bath is farcical! Good job we can laugh!
