Pain in my knees

I have been loving with knee pain for years now. In both knees. It started off just in my right knee as I had a tear in the minuscules (can’t spell it properly) I had it repaired three times but the tear kept reoccurring so now I’m just left like it. I then had a tear in my left knee I’ve had that repaired twice and I still now have a tear in it. Both knees are very painful but I just carry on

Hi chellshock! We're in the same club of knee pain, and I can understand how it must be for you. When there is a tear in one meniscus, we tend to put most of our weight on the other knee, which leads to damage in that as well. Just make it a point to get up from a chair slowly - in my case the tears happened from suddenly standing up from a sitting position. It also helps to wear elastic kneecaps - they keep the area warm and mobile and reduce the pain. Slow bending and flexing the knees also helps to keep them from getting stiff. All the best, and keep writing in.

Research has shown that there comes a time when repeated repair of tears in the meniscus stop being effective. There are different types of tears - tears near where it attaches and tears in the middle of the meniscus - and this also has an affect on how successful the repair will be.

It is important that you keep moving. You should see a doctor or other healthcare provider who can advise you on what you can do.
