What does Syncope mean and why was it on my medical record!? Confused!

Okay I understand it is fainting of some kind but I noticed literally that one word, possibly with 'complex' something or other before it. I have had unexplained blackouts and I was told a cause could not be found. Why would the doctor not have told me about this though?
