one of your members posted last week that a £130 pounds grant was available via your energy provider , I contacted them only to be told that there was no money left so I would get nothing, has anyone else had this problem?

Hi, I put up the topic....

Very mixed some were eligible, some missed the deadline. Which energy supplier are you with?

hello cardifflady,

thanks for your reply, im with sse they knew about the scheme but said that it ended in december which seems a bit strange as we are still in the depths of winter !

SWALEC end February. I'm with them, each energy provider have different cut off dates.

I looked at this also, as far as I'm aware there is no money in the pot until sometime in may, not worth applying until then.

I inquired after reason the same post. Im with British gas for my electricity. They said it also finished in December and to apply in may. I can't understand that everyone isn't even notified about this as it 1st I have heard about it.

Hi, tinaparkii, I wondered if people new about it, hence I posted the original question. It seems to be a "well kept secret" :( hey but not anymore - cat is out of the bag now ;) even my terminally ill mother with cancer (72yrs) didn't know about it and it is not automatic as the DWP say. So I rang up my mother's supplier in November and yes she was eligible so got it.

After reading my reply meant be4 not reason. Ha. Glad U got it for ur mum. The weather been terrible ain't it. And the heating cost so much. I have storage heaters which R very expensive and they come on in the night. Which kills me to be honest but to cold all day if I don't use them. But come teatime and the things R merely even warm so im freezing till go bed and use my electric blanket to get me warm. Just love my water bottle to keep my hands warm. I have recently bought an oil heater to use now from teatime as its just to cold not to av any heating at all. So wud av come in very handy this year but as U say we no now. Thank you. X

Call the RSA on 01270 872776 as they have just written a piece on heating allowances in their latest newsletter.

It’s a limited fund with each supplier as far as l have been informed by my supplier. If your supplier has no money left in the pot l would suggest you change your supplier to one that does. Each supplier should tellyou what their criteria is and when their cut off date is to apply. My supplier EDF said their’s is April. For some with Raynauds, Scleroderma or circulatory problems this money can make the difference in keeping their heating on or off during the winter months. I firmly believe that anyone who is unwell/disabled/ a vulnerable penshioner should receive the allowance but as we are all aware this government thinks differently and as one Tory cabinet member said wear a hat indoors! Good luck.
