Excessive Gas

Lately I have been experiencing excessive gas. I have not done anything different, I have not changed my eating habits (still sugar free, dairy free, gluten free and night shade vegetable free). Has anyone else experienced this? if so how long did it last and what did did you do about it??

Might be SIBO. A test can be run to rule this out. Treatment is with anti-biotics.

Is it in both directions? Up and down? Does it smell eggy?If so it could be small intestine bacterial overgrowth (SIBO), it is perfectly treatable with rotating antibiotics and you will need to see a good gastroenterologist.

Good luck

I would agree that you could have SIBO or candida or some other form of dysbiosis. You are obviously aware of how diet can affect autoimmunity so I would persue this a bit further. My son has MCTD (since age 10 - now 18). He is in full remission now. We totally changed his diet. Like you he has no gluten or dairy and minimal sugar. He also avoided all grains for a while, no soya, nuts, seeds and absolutely no processed foods at all. We have reintroduced rice, a few nuts and eggs now. He eats massive amounts of vegetables. He has also had supplements including l glutamine, probiotics, herbal mixtures for balancing gut microbes and helping gut repair. He is in full remission now and off all medication for 5 years. He used to get very gassy as you describe but no gut symptoms now for 3 years. I’m not sure that a gastroenterologist would know about all of this and antibiotics may help temporarily but there is a high rate of relapse if you don’t change the underlying cause of the problem. I think you would be better off seeing a functional medicine practitioner or nutritionist. Do your research though and find a good one that is experienced in dealing with autoimmune disease and dysbiosis / SIBO. If you can get on top if your gut symptoms it is likely that your autoimmunity will improve too. Hope this helps. Good luck. X

Have any of your meds changed? Hydroxychloroquine gives me gas. When I first started taking it, I had to reduce the dosage because it gave me diarrhea. I deal with the gas by taking it at bedtime.
