Question about slow bowel motility

Hi,

Just wondering if anyone else has slow bowel motility but without constipation? I have been told I have slow bowel motility and the assumption is I have constipation. The odd bit is I don’t have constipation: I go to the loo daily! I’m finding it hard to find others with similar difficulties or know what the solutions may be? I’ve read autoimmune dysmotility can occur and wonder if what I’m experiencing is just not like the norm due to the autoimmune side?

Thank you for any reply.

I have slow mobility in my small intestine, and as a result got very poorly with small intestinal bacterial overgrowth. I have to take antibiotics occasionally when I start losing weight.

Hello, sorry to jump on this conversation. Can anyone tell me what tests were involved in diagnosis with slow bowel motility? I strongly suspect I have this too. I have systemic sclerosis, secondary Raynauds and recently been diagnosed with GORD and ineffective oesophageal motility but I know I have bowel issues too. Seeing my gastroenterologist tomorrow and want to go in prepared.

Thank you 😊

There's no actual tests that I know of, but it's very much a given if you have SIBO. I tested positive for a methane breath test. I actually tested positive before I had even drank the preparation, so I must have had it pretty badly.

Years ago I was diagnosed with IBS and constipation. Like you I was opening my bowels every day without straining so thought I didn't have constipation. I was told I wasn't emptying my bowels so in fact I did have constipation. I now think I have SIBO. I have lost 2 stone in weight over the last 15 months although this has now stabilised. I also had upset bowels so had a colonoscopy, a CT and a MRI, but thankfully all was normal. The only time my bowels were normal was after the bowel prep for the colonoscopy and the contrast for the MRI scan, both of which empty your bowels. Normal bowels for a few weeks and then back to upset bowels. My gastroenterologist thinks it might be SIBO but hasn't tested for it. He has suggested I try probiotics. I am lactose intolerant and the only one I can find is Activia lactose free probiotic but no one seems to stock it. I think I will have to try capsules instead.
