Sjögren syndrome & Scleroderma ?

Hey guys so, I had a follow up appointment with my ophthalmologist on Friday and he said that my disease is now attacking the tear glands and he can see lots of inflammation. There was me thinking for weeks that I was just tired and that’s why my eyes are heavy and sore 😂 he’s given me some drops etc.

Is this what they call Sjögren’s ?? He didn’t say it was Sjögrens he just said my disease is now attacking my tear glands. Is there a strong link between Sjögrens and Scleroderma ?

Thank you

Hi

I have sjogrens too as part of my autoimmune condition. Some mornings I'd wake up and I could feel my eye lids scraping the front of my eye as I opened my eyelids.

I used lacralube ointment at night which helped and systane drops in the day.

It all calmed down after a few months and I only need treatment every so often when I have a flare. It was 12 years ago when it was worse

I can't wear contact lenses though as my eyes are too dry.

I had a test where they put some kind of thin paper in each eye to measure the moisture - I scored 2 in my left eye and 1 in my right eye out of 10 - so very dry :(

Hello, sounds like sjogrens to me. I have scleroderma, sjogrens and now rheumatoid arthritis. I use Xyalin night oint and halo forte drops during the day. The eyes are not too bad, I have had plugs put into the drainage holes in my lower lids and one of the top ones cauterised. It is the dry mouth which causes much more problems, making many foods difficult to eat. You need to ask your ophthalmologist if it is sjogrens.
