I’ve always had really nice nails and it’s been one of the few parts of my body I actually liked! I’ve always looked after them too
But over the last 12 months they’ve gone really thin and brittle, they snap off easily and ‘flake’ at the top. They’ve started going a bit brown now too at the top and sides and if I bang them even lightly I get big red blood blister things underneath and white bits along with those linear ridge things.
I’ve chopped them all off at the moment as I was so fed up of them flaking apart and snapping, but was wondering if there was anything else I could do to strengthen them?
I’ve already tried multiple treatments and hardening/strengthening concoctions and I already take vit d3/iron/folate/b12 for deficiencies.
If all else fails and I got false ones put on would they do more harm than good? I’ve had them put on before and I’m sure they left my nails a bit of a mess from what I can remember, but at least they’d be protected, wouldn’t snap and the horribleness would be hidden?
Also is the down to Reynauds? The last few attacks of it I’ve had have been some of the worst and I remember saying to my partner that it felt like my nails were going to fall off during it!

With Raynaud's, it is a lack of circulation, and the fingertips generally suffer, so where the lack of blood flow, it alters the growth pattern of the nail. I generally find winters are hard, then, spring comes round they start getting better, along with the warmer temperatures. By October my nails have significantly improved then bang, as if over night I start getting the pro lens again.
I have learned that protection for the nails, namely Rimmel nail rescue, a paint once a day for six days, remove for a day and start again treatment, allows my nails, to remain sort of normal.
However much you try with anything else, because of the lack of blood and all things that travel within that, the nails are brittle. So it's just perseverance, I haven't found a pill of any sort to improve things, just warmer temperatures.
Hope you find a way to manage your nails, and look forward to the warmer temperatures. X
Isn’t it vitamin E for nails? (I’m not sure) are you treating the raynauds?
