I have an odd feeling in feet ankles and lower legs, not quite numbness or pins and needles, or even dead feeling . The best way I can describe is it's as if I'm wearing shoes and socks even when not. not painful but makes me feel a bit off balance, Any ideas? Also am extremely stressed at present and hoping it is due to anxety

foxglove apologies I can't quite remember, what CREST illnesses it is u suffer from?

I get a similar feeling, not quite a dead feeling, and not quite numb, as I can still feel my feet. But they certainly get a sensation that's on the edge of both numbness and deadness, and affects my balance.

I've always put it down to terrible circulation in the cold, as it always happens when it's through the colder months. In fact, now I'm trying to describe the feeling, it feels like it would if you wore shoes a size too small.

Don't suffer from Crest illnesses that I know! Most peculiar feeling, I did even try a bigger size shoes but no joy. Think I will have to admit defeat and consult doc. - if I can get appt. that is

"CREST syndrome, also known as the limited cutaneous form of systemic sclerosis (lcSSc) is a multisystem connective tissue disorder. The acronym "CREST" refers to the five main features: calcinosis, Raynaud's phenomenon, esophageal dysmotility, sclerodactyly, and telangiectasia."

I thought you suffered from Raynauds or SSc? Maybe I'm mistaken or mis-remembering?

I do have Raynaud's, primary, and as have had from childhood I manage it ..Seems to bother others more than me!

Yes, I've had it since childhood too. Lately though it seems that I'm experiencing many more symptoms than ever before...

Since the SSc raised its ugly head, year on year the Raynauds has gotten worse. The pain I suffer has tripled, and this is with all of the cautions learned from having it since a kid. Gloves, layers, and heaters galore aren't holding it at bay as it used to!

Thanks for reply and sympathies

I think most people with SSC will recognise this! Certainly, I do. I've been told that it's because of the pressure, the squeezing in of the blood vessels so that circulation is restricted. I've had it for the last 4 years. Yes, it is unpleasant and unsteadying but I guess I just live with it!

Look up neuropathy. It often describes this as a sock-like feeling. I have both Raynaud's and neuropathy so I don't know which is causing which symptoms, but I also get that. I have to have my feet elevated almost all day long. I have an appointment to see a vascular specialist next week and very anxious to hear if she has any ideas. It's truly debilitating. Can't be on my feet for more than a couple of hours but even that is not good. I'm sorry you're having these symptoms. I take Gabapentin and Tramadol for relief of the nerve pain. I hope you can find relief.

Sounds that t you are in more pain than I, it's more discomfort and peculiar feeling with me, luckily(so far ) no trouble walking standing etc. Good luck wit vascular specialist x

I'm struggling with this really badly. Is there no cure? My feet and legs have been numb/pins&needles for 4 months now (this year). Stress brings mine on and I work outside. Been to the doctors many times but never had a diagnosis.

Sorry to hear you're a fellow sufferer, stress also affects me, I am well retired and didn't work outside but I enjoy "pottering" in garden, and though start of cold as I focus on what I'm doing Improve....distraction maybe? Think it's more than just getting circulation moving as I I'm outside say shopping I suffer.

I do a bit of cycling and in a recent magazine I read about compression sleeves and socks. I got a set of sleeves as my main pain is in my calves. Tried them for 2 days wearing them at work and I must say they have helped. Legs feel lighter and pain is less. When wearing them I could feel pulsing in the areas I'm normally sore, but I also noticed I have got rid of a lot of fluid when wearing them. Also when cycling no more cramps and about 10% more power

Thanks for this reply. Sounds a wonderful idea, esp. as you speak from personal use. Am going to Google now but would you also be kind enough to tell me which you use?....Cant wait to try! I also feel the need to lose fluid and I too suffer cramps and heavy legs.

They come in different sizes so you need to measure your calves

Thanks for prompt response, have had a bit of a search and think the type that will suit me best are the compression socks to knee that slip on foot leaving toe and heel free but supporting ankle ( I have ankle discomfort) It's brilliant to have suggestions for something not tried before. There's got to be an answer somewhere!

I got to the stage that anything is worth a try -but I have to see my consultant next week, so I will see what he says when I tell him what i have tried! I am ordering the socks today to wear while at work, but I'm feeling the benefits already.

I too am ordering the socks....great minds?. I am well retired and don't have a consultant, I'm not too bad really at the moment I suppose - don't want to go there! Perhaps we can keep in touch and compare notes.

At present I am wearing a pair of socks from the Raynaud's shop. Gave up in the past as I felt they were cutting into my legs but feel supportive now . Only been on for a short time but hey (maybe imagination or wishful thinking) but seem to feel better. Good to find something that isn't a med. Grateful for suggestions offered along that route though, as you say "anything worth a try"
