Hi I agree with you totally. I refuse to go into Tesco 😱in Minehead when I am over at my Mums. I sit and wait in the car. I do my own shopping in Sainsburys which is much warmer but still have to wear gloves.

Thankyou lynn7cunningham. At least we are not alone! When i do my grocery shop i have to wrap up and sometimes wear gloves. Yesterday went to street shopping and the shops were freezing ,was misserable and now my finger joint has gone red and sore 😞

I agree, I shop in smaller shops if I can, local green grocers, butchers etc. It really helps

I totally agree. Everyone at work is sitting under the air conditioning in tshirts and I have a jumper on. Supermarkets are a nightmare. All my fingers are numb by the time I've done my shopping but I can't wear gloves because I drop everything if I do.

Hey :) I order my food online and get it delivered! Saves time and cold! At work the office is air conditioned and I go in dressed smart and sit down and pull a big fleece over my legs under the desk like a little old lady and wear fingerless gloves if it's especially chilly :) sometimes a thin material but thick scarf looks like a fashion sort of look but actually is keeping my chest warm :) I also have a fluffy steering wheel cover like a 90's boy racer - protects me from extreme heat or cold with the steering wheel too :)

Blasting the air con on the last train home! Agh! Really?? I've got the most amazing thing in my car (well two amazing things!) - a heated steering wheel and heated seats! Bliss!

I also agreed Ac Evan cold weather ! I can't cop any coldness scared to see winter ! Be coz when cold air or wind make me more difficulty on birth and chest infection ! So I don't know it's to hard for me to live on this kind of illness ! Which Is scleroderma with Raynaud !

Ah, I call it "fridge isle attack" and you're not alone. It sucks as ppl without our condition/s are totally unaffected.

I carry fingerless gloves with me everywhere I go which can help a little, but mostly I run out of the shop too...

Keep note of shops that are less cold and try to shop there if possible, I've found Aldi the least shocking temp wise, but there's only so much I can buy there. Do u have a partner or a good friend who'll brave the colder shops for u?

Charlie.

I totally agree about the air conditioning in shops, at work, public transport etc etc. But I think you have to see the funny side of it especially when you go shopping looking like Eskimo Nell (or Neil). I do, like all Raynauds sufferers, never go without my armoury of cardigans, socks, tights, gloves but of course the plus recently is being lovely and comfortable on the odd roasting day whilst those normal lot are complaining it's too hot. Anyhow just going to change my bed and in anticipation of what's ahead get my new electric blanket plugged in.

creditcrunchie haha our armory of knitted garments, that made me giggle.

It's great the hot weather suits you, unfortunately I suffer in hot weather from my SSc making everything swell up, so tbqh I've learned to love the winter. I know that's unusual for a Raynauds sufferer, but I find it easier to warm up to be comfortable than to cool down!

I like you though try to find the funny things in my desperation, like when my muscles in my arms/hands spasm and I involuntarily chuck a 2lb bag of sugar at a total stranger in the supermarket :D that's happened more than once, although never with a box of eggs.... Yet!

in reply to gindy

Lol . I did throw a pen at the receptionist in my doctors one day and I have thrown various objects around the sitting room. Do let us know when you chuck the eggs. 🍳🍳🍳

Hidden haha it's the oddest feeling, chucking things involuntarily isn't it? It's so weird that it's happened more than once in the sugar aisle to me, maybe it's the weight of the sugar that sets off a spasm... Who knows.

I'm actually hyper conscious of it in the egg aisle though, as it's just a comical picture in my mind that flashes up when I'm examining the eggs, I've been known to snigger to myself at the thought of it potentially happening... That's gotta be a nervous reaction to a possible situation occurring. I'm "egg traumatised"! :D

I guess, the lesson is to try and see the funny side of what's otherwise a really crappy illness.

in reply to gindy

Hi Gindy If you do throw the eggs just say you were shocked at the EGGstravagant prices and you SHELL not be paying that price. It will be all WHITE and you can shop elsewhere. The YOLK will be on them as they've lost your custom.

I do agree we have to see the funny side of things but perhaps we should all start complaining about the air conditioning in shops as I am sure it doesn't need to be that high.

Take care and keep warm. 🐣🐣

I'm saving a fortune can't stay in a shop long enough to buy anything ha ha ha ha

I looked like a total fashion disaster today in tesco I lost my jumper (goodness knows where I left it, I had been carrying it all day) so borrowed a friends and it certainly did not match my outfit nor did my pink gloves! Usually I plan better but hadn't planned on the inpromptu tesco trip. So total fashion disaster had to prevale.

Joking aside it does really really annoy me if raynauds is apparently as common as hay fever there has got to be loads and loads of people struggling so why can't shops, trains, cinemas etc just turn it down?

Did complain once in Waitrose and was told that the thermostat was automatic, so what's the point. In good weather, which we haven't had a lot of in Scotland, my other half laughs when I ask to put a coat and gloves in when going shopping. People do look at you a little oddly when donning these to enter the shop. Best wishes to all.
