Sleep without drugs

I take Passion Flower, Valerian Root, Melatonin (3mg ONLY). Since I am 81, I sleep 5-6 hours a night but these herbs get me to sleep within 20 minutes. The rest of the night I'm in and out. Passion Flower and Valerian Root you can check with your doctor and Mayo Clinic and wing it.

My definition is "a condition of body and mind that typically recurs for several hours every night, in which the nervous system is relatively inactive, the eyes closed, the postural muscles relaxed, and consciousness practically suspended."

I suggest you see a VA psychiatrist concerning your PTSD.

I am 85 and have struggled with insomnia for 25 years. At the present I am only able to sleep after 2 or 3 days of 0 hours of sleep. Then in a state of exhaustion I can sleep for a couple of hours. I am sure I am picking up a few minutes of sleep as I sit in a chair most of the time and feel my body seeking sleep but it only ends in an unproductive nod. I have tried ALL the sleeping pills but the only one that works is Ambien that found me on the road at 6am when I ran a stop sign and was stopped by the police in my PJ’s. My excuse was I was picking up my grandchildren at church.Since that occurred I have been without anything.

I have tried Melatonin. No positive effect.

My other medical problems are RLS,

Severe Sinus blockage,

Have you tried Passion Flower and Valerian root? In combination with Melatonin, they seem to work for me. For RLS, a friend of mine found using gabapentin (Horizant) helped him. He is, as am I, over 80. For severe sinus blockage, please see a physician and bring your other problems to the physician's attention. That's the best I can do.
