Hydroxi causing eye probs

I was diagnosed with Sjrogrens 7 years ago and 6 months ago with SLE. In the past few months I have been having regular visits to the Optholmologist as my sight is rapidly deteriorating. My Rhumatologist has taken me off Hydroxichloroquine in case this is the problem. Has anyone else had this problem as it is very worrying.

it would be the medication that is deteriorating your eye sight not the sjogrens.

Some people taking this medication over long periods of time or at high doses have developed irreversible damage to the retina of the eye. Stop taking hydroxychloroquine and call your doctor at once if you have trouble focusing, if you see light streaks or flashes in your vision, or if you notice any swelling or color changes in your eyes.

Get emergency medical help if you have any of these signs of an allergic reaction while taking hydroxychloroquine: hives; difficulty breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.

Call your doctor at once if you have a serious side effect such as:

muscle weakness, twitching, or uncontrolled movement;

loss of balance or coordination;

blurred vision, light sensitivity, seeing halos around lights;

pale skin, easy bruising or bleeding;

confusion, unusual thoughts or behavior; or

seizure (convulsions).

Less serious side effects of hydroxychloroquine may include:

headache, ringing in your ears, spinning sensation;

nausea, vomiting, stomach pain;

loss of appetite, weight loss;

mood changes, feeling nervous or irritable;

skin rash or itching; or

hair loss.

This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects.

hope this helps

Yes get off that hydroxi it will be what is causing the problem. Like all orthodox medications there are side effects. I thoroughly recommend going onto a natural product called Mannatech.

I have been on it two years now and it has given me a quality of life I never had before. It helps to regulate the cells of the body which is where the auto immune problems start. I have been off all orthodox medications for a long time now. I live in N.Z. and cannot access it here have to get it from Australia. I take the ambrotose powder along with the plus tablets. It is suitable for all health problems. Have to be on it for many months before it takes effect.

for information about it e mail custserv@mannatech.com.au It is really worth pursuing. My SS has faded into the background and I feel almost normal again.
