Can anyone help with Burning mouth syndrome? My sister has developed this problem. She has had secondary S.S for many years along with thyroid and pancreas problems and has now developed a burning mouth. Would appreciate any information on some sort of relief from this.

So difficult - I’ve resorted to 1/2 or 1/4 teaspoon pure coconut oil to relive the burning mouth sensation - only temporary works as well as any of the sprays I’ve tried.

ZyliMelts create glut for me . I use a spray in the night often wake gasping for breath. I really feel for her it’s awful

Hello, I have severe burning mouth consistently and especially when stressed or not drinking enough during the day. Sipping water regularly with a flavour like a piece of cucumber helps and keeping the mouth moist as much as possible. Mouth washes for dryness is good for some people. Stress is a massive issue with how bad the symptoms will be in my opinion. Meditation and yoga helps me. My teeth have suffered as a result of the disease, I see the dentist regularly and get cleaning done regularly which also helps with the pain and tooth mousse helps me also. Unfortunately there’s not much we can do. Just try things and see what helps her as we are all a bit different. I feel for her. I wish there was a cure for us. I would love to eat normally again. I wish her all the best.

Never knew what it was but I had these symptoms several years ago. I often had eczema on my hands at the same time. The first thing I noticed was that walnuts were a culprit especially in my mouth. My sister, cousin & aunt all have the same reaction to them.

Secondly, for me, eating high acid foods contributes to this mouth tissue pain and even to little blister areas. I not longer eat citrus or other high acid foods by themselves, only occasionally small quantities in sauces & salsas. I notice increased symptoms and pain if I've eaten a taco one day and then a few small pieces of green pepper the next day. My aunt got significant relief when she stopped having her daily glass of orange juice. Along with being gluten free, I have very little mouth pain and virtually no eczema.

This may be only a family trait as I've not heard much about this as a food sensitivity affecting the mouth. But it certainly is worth a try in figuring out if your sister and others may be having reactions to the foods that they eat. It makes some sense.

II am travellers sister and just to update this. My Dr has put onto a B12 mouth spray. I take it once a day . It appears there is a condition called Burning Mouth Sydrome. It is early days so I will let you know how I go. Basically I get a dreaful taste in my mouth in the morning which increases till my tongue feels burnt by nightime. I have been giving myself baking soda mouth washes to try to nutrilise the effects. I have Kenalog to put on any really ulcer type patches but you can't keep doing that all the time as it has a steriod in it. So far there is a lessening in the symptoms with the spray. Fingers crossed.

I find alpha lipoic acid tablets (ALA) helps. May take a little while to work. I have had burning mouth for some years. Started in the menopause. Some say it is neurological. Google it.
