Hi all, struggling with what to do for my dad. 81 and has had urine and Fecal incontinence for over a year now after a medical incident, but the fecal incontinence has gotten much worse over the past 4 weeks. We've had tests and blood work and so far nothing abnormal. Adjusted diet etc. I'm wondering if his diabetes may be a contributor - nerve damage- and even the medication he takes - Glimepiride. I have live in help, but she is changing him 3-4 times a night, clothing being too. During the day is better. He does not even try to use the toilet anymore. Any suggestions on further test or even products to use to help? thanks in advance.

Peelaways

sorry to hear about this. PeelAways - can help with sheet changes if that’s a consistent doing. 1 fitted sheet with 5 soft, 100% waterproof peel away layers. Diapers and PeelAways can be a great combination to make 3-4 changes a night a bit easier. - hope this helps

If the stool is quite loose or almost liquid, I would suggest trying the Hollister fecal collection pouch. This can be placed on your Dad, and this will keep feces off of his skin, and cut way down on changes at night. If he is mobile during the day, you will want to use a highly absorbent product. This pouch cannot be used if you are walking/ambulatory. The link is to information about the Hollister collector and you can have them contact you off of a link of this product information page. You may also be able to get a free sample as well to try. You will want to ask them if it is safe on the skin to do daily changes as well.

I am assuming your father has been tested for C. diff (clostridium difficile), which can cause profuse diarrhea. Not being a medical professional, I am not sure what else they should be testing for, but I am sure your gastroenterologist will know the gamut of things to test.

I hope this helps!
