Hi, I have the trait and experience severe muscle pain and in my lower back. I have had test done to find the cause and they were all negative.
My doctor tells me it's a possibility but very unlikely that it's caused from the trait.
Does anyone have this experience?
It can be caused by the sickle cell trait.
Then again it can be due to something else - quite a few people I know have had vitamin deficiencies and have experienced unexplained pains in parts of their bodies including their back. One of the most common is at the moment is low levels of vitamin D.
It is always a good idea when getting tests particularly blood tests done on the NHS to get a copy of the results with ranges. This is your right as a patient under the Data Protection Act 1998 and getting them is free or costs a few pence if you get them less then 40 days after the test was done.
Over the years I've personally found GPs have ignored, or in one case lied, about my blood test results.
There are many people around including on the internet who are qualified and/or work in medicine or allied fields, and have done research on what causes different conditions and whether there is any treatment for them. So if you show them your blood test results in full they can actually point out what you doctor has ignored and explain whether you can get treated for it on the NHS.
Yes !!multiple times I've had doctors, hematologist & specialist even said it's impossible for us to have a crisis bc we only have the trait .. Problem is if no acknowledge this fact we're in for a world of hurt literally and figuratively speaking
Yes. I have the trait and suffer with lower back pain all the time!! Since I am 64, doctors just say it is arthritis.
