Hello,

I am 39 yrs old and I have Sickle Cell Anemia. I was diagnosed as a baby, but I didn't start being hospitalized until I was 13.That was my first full blown crisis's. So yes you can have SCA and never hurt. I wish that was the case now days.Today I struggle with pain in my legs, hip, and back every morning that comes and goes all day. Maybe arthritis has a little to do with it. I have a wonderful doctor that's a good listener.Which doesn't come around to often. You can check with a pediatric clinic in your area and see where they normally send their kids with Sickle Cell Anemia once they turn 18. If you don't agree with your Dr. decision, or you think he/she is no help. You need to keep searching until a Dr. actually listen to you. Make sure the Dr. does all the test they need to do to make sure you are ok.Good Luck to everyone with Sickle Cell Anemia because I know it can be a struggle. God Bless and I hope you all stay well.
