I am 38 with Sickle cell disease. Our stomachs Swell for several reasons. Spleen enlargement is one. Fluid retention is another. Talk to her doctor and also research smoothies that may help with weight gain. We are usually thin people. I didn’t gain weight until my 1st pregnancy. Also I have a list of foods, herbs and holistic practitioners which I can email to you if your interested. Make sure you have your hematologist and possibly a natural doctor in your area to stay ahead of the disease. Research and contact SCDAA as well for more resources. Hope this helps!

I have the same problem but my stomach is enlarged because I have an enlarged liver so I look like one of the kids from Africa that's starving with the pop belly. The enlarged liver comes from the sickle cell but it could be a different case for your child. Whatever the problem, it may be more common than not especially involving sickle cell.
